C300: New C700 film and BTS from Eurpoe

So they say. But I've met several film nerds who all swear, hand on heart, that Kubrick shot Barry Lyndon with only natural light (of course he didn't).

There's so much poor available light cinematography in indie movies these days. REDs are cheap and ubiquitous enough to rent out, so you have the camera element in the ball park, but a real lighting kit and crew is tougher to get ahold of.

Looks fine to me, no better or worse than the competition really. Six years on and still no one's able to touch Arri on the highlight front, but at least it looks like Canon have finally pulled more-or-less level with the rest of the competition.

Still, I think the C700 has some appealing ergonomic and operational features (particularly the internal NDs), so I'm keen to try one out.

Also, it's going to break down to cost. A fully kitted Arri Amira, Alexa or Alexa Mini is still going to be a in a different ballpark than a fully kitted C700. I wouldn't be surprised to see some price drops on the C700 six to twelve months after they begin delivering them, that seems to be in the Canon playbook whereas you don't see Arri drop their camera prices too much other than an occasional promotion when they throw in some media or a software upgrade.

same sensor architecture as c300 II, and its means same DR as c300II / fs7, cant say its bad , but its not great....and its still behind an old alexa. for that price there are other options with better options.... lol. so strange to see canon that much behind

You don't know that, you are assuming it is the same. I'm looking forward to talking with the key Canon people who worked on the shoot 3 weeks ago regarding the new chip/ISO/DR....they will know where the camera is in those areas....

It's the sky that's blown out, it's not like the windows are nuclear white panels - you can still see detail in some of the outside elements.

The art direction, male model, location and a song that isn't from audio jungle all help too.

Anyway no one is buying this $28K camera after only watching a single commercial on youtube. More samples will come from productions with bigger lighting budgets. Like others have said this will be used as just one piece in evaluation.

SIDE NOTE: We start by hearing the crackle of the vinyl. Then it disappears once the track starts, similar to a hyper digital sample you hear when trying on BOSE headphones... it's insulting.

It's not horrible; it just doesn't look like cinema to me.
