C300: New C700 film and BTS from Eurpoe

Hey everyone-
Here is the actual C700 film that Clive Booth directed. Except for the car mount & Steadicam shots, it was all C700. What has impressed me was all the interiors done with no lights, big windows with massive light coming in, and the way the new camera handled the big range.......

and here is the behind the scenes:

The other cameras they used were the C300 MK II and the ME-200 for the car mount shots and Steadicam......good stuff!!

Images look quite nice. I agree about the edit, the split screen stuff looks a bit hacky. Can't believe that they showed that car so much without even a downshift or exhaust blip sound from it, the Aston Martin exhaust note is a special kind of music. I didn't know that the C700 was that gray/off white body color or maybe it was a prototype? Even for sponsored content, it felt like the main character was rich, vain and way too into himself but then again, I am sure a lot of customers of Hackett and Aston are rich, vain and way too into themselves so perhaps it works? Looking forward to seeing something a bit more narrative where we can linger on the shots longer but I think it shows that the C700 will definitely be in the Arri area as far as look and feel.

Skin tones were good in this. My experience with the C300mkII was you can get there with a bit of work.

I'm not really fussed by the edit etc, just how the camera is performing, which seems quite well. Better than other early demo piece we saw.

Jim, you would know: has there been any update to Canon Log 2 or 3 since C300MKII release?

Did you get the one in July?

Yea...they fixed/improved LOG 2, added LOG 3 and more stuff. I can't put up the link now because the Canon site is not working ...because of the cyber attacks that have been going on today across the country......but you should be able to find it on other Canon sites.....it was the July update

Ah cheers. Will have to take another look at it. Wasnt happy with previous Log2 so good to see they made changes.

Watched it again. Would love to see the colour grade process for this to see how it performed.

Few things caught my eye apart from what looked like solid camera performance. Car mounts needed some work, road didn't look like it should deliver all that vibration alone. And a note for any 1st ac watching this, please never put the snap on MB on the lens before the lens is mounted to the camera. Well you can I guess but I wouldn't want to see that.

Not crazy about some of the lighting (or lack thereof) but I don't see any flaws in the imagery from the camera.
Looks like another solid contender. Would like to see some slow mo and super low light stuff.

C700 showed nice roll-off into the highlights. it's informative and important to see (mostly) available light photography to help evaluate cameras. It would be helpful to see 1-3 FC light level shots to evaluate low light performance. For myself the C700 form factor is a vast improvement over the previous C series cameras.

Agree on the car rigs- they were, um, student-esque. Magic arms for setting a camera outboard??? C-arms??? Lack of rigidity clearly evident in the car shots. I agree with the director that it's great to shoot fast, but you still have to do pro level work, and hire the right personnel, like a couple of experienced rigging grips.

They should have used gaff tape to secure it better.

Why is this demo video being posted now as if it's new? This was already posted here and is a month and a half old.

I thought it generally looked very nice, perhaps filmic even. Though was anyone else surprised how they let the windows totally blow out? Surely they could have lit the interior more and/or gelled the windows? Maybe they were purposely trying to show the highlight roll-off?

Jim mentioned no lights were used. Gelling the windows would reduce the overall illumination and likely have the same contrast ratio. For camera evaluation it's handy NOT to light the scenes. One less variable.

I liked the roll-off, however I am guessing an Amira/Alexa would have more highlight retention, and also more noise in the shadows.

Sooo...why no lights used? Isn't this positioning itself as a Hollywood cinema A-camera? When would any production, even a modest one, totally ditch lighting?
