New Blackmagic Camera July 16th?

Exactly my thoughts. Not even Hollywood is shooting 12K. And like I said, nobody is dropping Alexas to shoot Ursa. The Ursa as is already has a bit of an odd market placement. I think a full frame 6K camera with good ISO would have been more useful. But it surely wouldn't be as flamboyant. Is Blackmagic losing sight of their market? They can't compete in the high end and they are not giving what the little guy needs. I bet most would exchange Canon levels of autofocus, high ISO and a few other things for a 12K sensor nobody needs. Is the ISO still 800? 12K in a S35 sensor it probably is still 800 at best.

12 k is only one part of the story.

This is a brand new approach to a sensor.

The fact you can do in camera scaling raw without changing your field of view is amazing.

It has a beautiful look and colour fidelity.

It’s almost the fact that it’s 12k is a side effect of achieving their other design goals.

12K 60fps or 8K at 110 fps, super-sampled 8K and 4K not from crops, 9 streams of 12K BRAW multicam on a laptop, BMD designed 12K BRAW sensor, $10k. M.2 SSD recorder for $395, records also to USB-C SSD, "edits as easy as UHD."

Sure but the question still remains. Who's the target buyer? Nobody is going to drop Alexas to shoot on this. And what was compromised to get 12K ? Is the ISO still only 800? Is it a rolling shutter? How bad at 12K?

Grant said Ursa 12K will target "the highest end." 12K demos are available for download to try with Resolve beta.

This is the point. The highest end uses ARRI. Nobody is dropping ARRI just because Blackmagic has a 12K camera. So he can say it's for the highest end. But it doesn't make it so. The Blackmagic buyer probably prefers good autofocus and high ISO over 12K I would say.

I'm already liking it JB. Camera is way way out of my price range and market - but from what Mr.Petty hinted at, it's a revolutionary game changing approach and sensor design. It's a shame this was only hinted at here and there during the presentation, should have been the focal point togather with the 12k. Hope you and other BM guys will soon be able to give us all the details.

I think it makes really nice pictures. That’s the core driver of sales I think. If you have 10K to drop and want the best looking most robust images...I think they’re going to make a pretty compelling case.

RS is 15ms at 12k and 6ms at 8K.

Looks really nice but reminds me a bit of the z-cam reel. Nice images but lack in usability for the work I do. When I considered a new camera the weight and size of the UM was a big downside. I just spent 10k for the c300iii. The AF, the form factor, low light performance and ibis has more value for me. It’s just personal usage and the image in your reel look great no doubt

The clip from Vimeo looks great full screen on a 5K monitor. The possibilities for cropping 12K footage are intriguing. 220 fps for 4K definitely has my attention and for my needs the crop factor is actually a big plus.

Nicely shot of course. But not a stress shot. Doesn't give any indication of the shutter performance.

How is the highlight rolloff? On pair with Alexa?

How did you find focusing 12K on moving shots using the Blackmagic EVF or monitor?

Just saw it is indeed ISO 800. Disappointing. Specially that I was not impressed with the dark shots. Might be just vimeo compression. But the Alexa looks great at ISO 800 at least. And the Alexa is only used in shoots that can afford to light. I would not say the same for a $10k camera. Reason ISO 800 is disappointing in 2020 for such camera.

Nailed it.

Last 30 minutes have basically been everything I love and hate about BM. See the new camera specs, get excited, download Resolve Beta / clips, they play flawlessly on my 2017 machine... and then I start grading and my whole system locks up and I have to hard restart.

Great tech at great prices and when it works it's amazing, I just have zero confidence that it's not going to crash/break at a critical moment. Feel the same about the camera, too. Too many Ursa paperweight stories for me to feel comfortable plunking down 10k for this thing.

Very grateful to BM & to a lesser extent RED for what they're doing to the industry though. This is pretty wild.

I missed the presser, but just checked Twitter for info on the announcement. I actually, genuinely, no word of a lie, nearly pissed myself laughing.

Then I thought, hmmm...

We’ve all been there. Trust me.

My thoughts in the space of three seconds were

Wow

Why

Maybe ?

Yes !

Like I said the real story here is the sensor. Not the number of pixels but the type.
