New Blackmagic Camera July 16th?

I'm truly clapping for BM, my hands high in the air...but at the end of the day, it's not what I personally expected or would ever use.

But my opinions like those in that 8K thread are realized with another development...the technology must go on.

The chat is still to come about the technology.

However, let’s say that this is not a Bayer sensor. So the numbers don’t mean the same thing anymore....

JB, maybe you could be the first DP to shoot a film or series in 12K if you convince showrunners.

Exactly my thoughts. Not even Hollywood is shooting 12K. And like I said, nobody is dropping Alexas to shoot Ursa. The Ursa as is already has a bit of an odd market placement. I think a full frame 6K camera with good ISO would have been more useful. But it surely wouldn't be as flamboyant. Is Blackmagic losing sight of their market? They can't compete in the high end and they are not giving what the little guy needs. I bet most would exchange Canon levels of autofocus, high ISO and a few other things for a 12K sensor nobody needs. Is the ISO still 800? 12K in a S35 sensor it probably is still 800 at best.

This camera and the trickle down tech to other cams make the future look bright for BM. You also have to admire a company who in minute one of the livestream talk about making a product more affordable .
 
What would be the technical limitation that stops the camera for being able to do even higher frame rates at say 2K resolution. Say something close to the 480 frames per second, because if I had that at 2K well this camera would probably have my attention but since I have no plans or shooting 8K let alone 12K then this camera is just not for me and I'll be honest not what I was expecting haha
 
Yeah they are trying to compete with the RED Market. Which is interesting because RED is trying to appeal to the lower end market with the RED Komodo.

If it can deliver really nice 4k though with good dynamic range and resonable ISO performance it'll be a winner. The ability to shoot in 8k is nice for certain shots.

I'd much rather see a full frame camera with BRAW up to 4k 120p though. Or a Pocket 6k sensor in an URSA body. That said I am interested to see how nice Gen 5 color science is.
