New Blackmagic Camera July 16th?

This is not the droid I'm looking for.

I'm curious to hear more about the new sensor technology, though.

Colors look beautiful - nice looking skin tones test

Is it just me or does something look odd about the movement in slow motion?

Maybe this means cool things are coming to the next Pocket. More resolution was not what I, specifically, needed however.

Interesting that it can scale the RAW

If BM has done nothing else they've pushed the stuffed shirts (Sony, Canon, etc.) to innovate and lower their prices for their tech. They're like the crazy uncle at the family get together that everyone pokes fun at but is genuinely interesting and a bit of a mad genius.

1:05 into the test you posted. The man stands up and something seems odd to me about the movement but I really can't put my finger on it. I paused some frames to inspect and they looked fine. I watched it on both my phone and laptop. Maybe I'm losing my mind. Something about the edge of his outline looks odd to me as it moves

Would like to know this too John. And agree iso 800 is disappointing.
 
John when will we see discussion and tests about the new sensor? Why is it better? All of the following discussed and tested against a high end Bayer sensor. Color fidelity? Dynamic range? Latitude? Noise structure? Highlight roll off? Etc. 12k does nothing to convince most people. All those other things very well might if the improvements are genuine.
 
While the camera work in the demo is obviously talented, the images don't impress me at all. Looks like every other "cinema camera" coming out of China these days. I said the same thing about the Komodo.
Could have been shot at 2K for all that it matters. I don't see how the 12K helped the image. Or anything else for that matter.

I'm jut not impressed with BMD in general. They seem to always release really screwball camera designs (ergonomically), with the exception of the URSA Pro or do something like this.

What I would love to see them do is release a super35 4K box camera (like the Z cam) with two full sized XLRs, flip out LCD screen, tilting EVF, high dynamic range and frame rates, preferably global shutter if possible, some built in ND filters and an SD and CFexpress card slot, and both an 8bit and 10bit H.264 or H.265 codec at variable compression ratios from 25Mbps to kingdom come, along with ProRes and BRAW for more demanding work. That would be a killer camera. Especially under $3K.

That would be useful.

Its 12k. Shooting for 4k You've got close up , medium and wide in one shot.

You can edit this on a laptop

Do VFX? You're happy


They released this camera. You want something else. Got it.

I really only think this is true for productions that don't put a premium on aesthetic. Yes, Fincher reframes his shots in post, but I doubt he enlarges a medium shot from a wide shot

Zeiss supremes look very nice.

Someday I’ll post a resolution chart I have. A lot of lenses that are popular right now don’t have the same kind of high performance. If resolution is what you want. I wouldn’t get too hung up though because everyone want’s the vintage low-fi vibe these days anyway....

Also Zeiss make the Milvus, which I have to say...look to be nearly the same as these supremes.....

This is true. Maybe a lot of people will buy the camera - JB certainly seems interested. If you liked the UMP G2 and data is not a problem, then there seem to be few drawbacks from this new camera.

But will the VFX heavy shows and movies go for this over RED? Remains to be seen.

Lower budget VFX I could see this being a huge win for. But the really low budget stuff still can't afford it. And once you get even a modest budget, the camera cost is less a part of the whole budget. So the camera will need to compete on quality more than on cost

It’s not slow motion. None of those clips are.

It was all shot on a Ronin R2, there’s a bobble mid take where I reframe as it moves closer. Might be the gimbal bobble ?
