New Blackmagic Camera July 16th?

Yeah, my understanding is a lot of those panels are really tough to produce in quantity at high standards.

And it is a “camera update” tomorrow, but a boy can dream...

My guess is that it will be an update to the Ursa Mini line. Probably an 8K version. Would love to see reliable DPAF but I'm not convinced a smaller company could pull it off. Personally, I am getting burned out on the resolution race. How about a $3000 4K raw camera with 16-17 stops? THAT would be something to talk about. Or, perhaps more realistically, a $3000 Pocket 4K/6K that runs on some chunky NPF batteries and has internal NDs? BM would be the company to do it.

What about a 4K Micro Cinema update with a NPF plate in the back?

4K/120p ProRes and BRAW - 15 stops - DPAF.

...slightly bigger with a S35 sensor but still around the size of a tennis ball.

A Blackmagic prores + Braw , S35mm oversampled 4k, with and a body like the Canon XC15 4K allowing interchangeable lenses. Oh. and not a EF mount.

I would love to see more brands come up with mount adapters, like Kinefity. I am guessing IP issues prevent it, specially if you want to have functioning electronic parts.

E Mount, RF mount and L mount for sure are complicated.

The new camera was in my dream last night - it's a hand held gimbal/camera with a mule kick image with lighting fast AF. Price? I don't care..

It's refreshingly un-canon/sony/RED for BM to tease the announcement only a day in advance and I approve and I'm excited.

But what will all the youtubers and out-of-work cameramen do with themselves without a rumor mill to grind? Jk

Are you still using BM cameras? It's been a minute since those BMCuser days!

Indeed. I don't see a reason to use anything but BMD or ARRI, personally. Others may feel differently. BMDshooter for life.

Edit: FX9 gets an honorable mention. I'm surprised more people aren't looking at that camera.

Two years ago, I wasn't that excited by BMD.

FF to 2020, I am editing a lot of stuff in Resolve, I reviewed the UMP G2, which I was lukewarm on (nice camera but they didn't get a few things right that bugged me, totally capable tool though) and the PCC 6K which I thought was an amazing camera for the money. Also scored
an ATEM Mini Pro and I'm not even using it for live streaming, using the multiview on set when shooting 3-4 cameras and it's genius and the internal recording is so useful for recording laptop ouputs. In two years, BMD has gone from a company that I really didn't get excited about
or think very much about to I am VERY impressed with them, they are doing things that nobody else is doing like making a FULL lineup of products, many of which compliment each other beautifully. Shooting BM RAW on a BM camera and editing it in Resolve is so smart.

Can't wait to see what they will unveil although I worry that it'll just be something that nobody needs like an 8K camera. Hopefully something more innovative/interesting than just a camera with a bigger raster? I think with some important tweaks like adding Canon or Sony level AF,
moving the XLRs to a better location, 10 stop internal NDs, add a video waveform and just a few little things, a UMP G3 could be one of the best cameras on the market and go head to head with the C300 MKIII and the FX9 or maybe blow them away if it sold for $8k, instead of $11k.
The Blackmagic Design camera menus are a joy to use, the images look great, it's 85% of the way to being a massively great camera, it's already a good camera.

BMD's the most innovative camera manufacturer IMO, and everything they do slots into an ecosystem. They created their own acquisition format [BRAW] that can carry you from set through to post efficiently, and gave away the software for free to anyone not in a studio environment.

It's about time for some more BMD disruption, apparently...

Whatever you have (and I know you have something, haha), please consider making a thread here on this forum about it if and when ready.

Definitely. Always nice to talk to someone out shooting stuff with the newest! And you are a talented filmmaker Kholi!

OK so now I do think there's a new camera coming. Let's see...

It could be a UMP G3 to bring them back to the fight with the new models in the slightly higher price bracket (FX9, C300III). Maybe it's a bit early for that but not by much:
UM4.6: March 2016
UMP: March 2017
UMP G2: March 2019

But the one that's right o'clock with their recent release cycle is, suprisingly, the pocket:
p4k: Sep 2018
p6k: Aug 2019
So... maybe a p6k G2 with lower power consumption and higher frame rates? Or one with a bigger sensor? (hopefully not higher res, 6k is already way more than I need)

Also, the BH thing with the three slots makes me think of a new micro.

Personally, what would make me upgrade is a p4k/p6k with either the DR of the UMP, or with good AF (which I think is the only thing I'm missing out as a BM user nowadays)
