New Batman cast...

Affleck doesn't bring any depth to his roles. It's like he is trying to think his way through acting, rather than reacting. It's uncomfortable to watch.
Especially how he incessantly blinks when he is talking. Has an actor ever been as blinky as Ben Affleck?

Ben Affleck is a very bright person, but he is a hollow actor. He isn't even good at playing himself. He is too self conscious...

I'm rewatching scenes from Daredevil on Youtube. Affleck's not great in it by any means, but he's certainly the least of that film's problems. Boy-oh-boy is it awful. The dialogue, the set design, Colin Farrell, Michael Clarke Duncan, the editing...

It just fails on every possible level.

The Heath Ledger effect. This has happened with many roles, from Joker to Bond. An actor is chosen to play some iconic character, the internet goes crazy angry about the choice basing the person off various other roles they've done. Petitions are signed (I think that's already began?), and then the trailer comes out and everyone shuts up. I'm not saying this will happen exactly the same way, since Ben Affleck has a huge rap sheet. However keep in mind Bryan Singer is the same director who chose Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine. He may have seen Affleck in the audition room/screen test doing something amazing with the role that we haven't seen. Maybe he brings something perfect to a tired batman, an older one who's ready to give up the cowl. Who knows!

I'd prefer to save my judgement for the trailer instead of complaining now. We'll have plenty of time to complain when the trailer comes out.
Were people worried about Ledger being cast as the Joker? I don't remember anything like that.

Not being sarcastic. I just never heard of people being up in arms when Ledger was announced as The Joker.

Ok checked that link and its mostly people making homophobic remarks after Brokeback Mountain, not exactly 'reasons'. Most people here are more saying Ben just isn't a great actor and we've seen him a few times as leading man to come to that conclusion.

I don't think most of those refer to Brokeback Mountain/"gay." Most of them pretty much seem to be the same kind of "HIM???? NO WAY!!!!" stuff that's being posted all over the 'net about Affleck.

Ben isn't the best actor ever. But neither is Heath Ledger.

Once people calm down and get over their memories of Ben's J-Lo days, they'll realize that the Argo/GoodWillHunting/Armageddon/CompanyMen Affleck can do just fine in a decently scripted and directed movie. My first choice? Probably not. But then again, I wouldnt stuff Batman into the FIRST sequel after a successful Superman reboot. It's just too greedy. Superman has(had) the potential to be a bigger cash cow than Batman. Batman Begins earned ~$266 million worldwide. Man Of Steel, $649million. I'm just afraid trying to put these two superheros in the same movie (one who has to have a new origin story) is gonna make for a terrible script and flat characters.

How is Snyder going to deal with having a far more talented director as a lead actor? I'm hoping he'll learn a few things.

I'm not a fan of superhero movies, so I have no emotional stake in this.

Actually, BB made $374mil worldwide. Not sure where you got the $266mil number? haha

And given the vastly different receptions BB and MOS had (BB having much higher ratings both critic and audience, as well as stronger legs at the box office), I think an MOS sequel is likely to stay relatively the same in gross or decline, without significant help. That said, I agree with you that it makes more sense to develop Bats and Supes separately before jumping into the superhero dogfight movie.

From most accounts, Affleck is going to have a strong hand in creating the character of Batman for the new franchise. Could be a plus side of him being cast.

I was very impressed by his performance in Brokeback Mountain before he took the Joker role. He was also excellent in Monster's Ball, two performances better than any Ben has done. So no comparison for me.
