New Batman cast...

Why would you go against the fans? It's like peeing into the wind. I can't imagine Batman fans are thrilled about this choice, so why would you do it?
How am I going against the fans? I'm stating as a fan, what I'm expecting. The only batman films I wanna remember is micheal Keaton and christen bale, and were going back the gearge clooney and val kilmer days. So take a breather. I'm stating the worst you can expect is daredevil 2. It's not like Jennifer Lopez is gonna be cat woman, and gotham was changed to jersey city.

I thought he was great in the Town, The Company Men, and Hollywoodland

He wasn't great in those. He was okay. He did a job thirty other actors could have done as good or better at. I don't have an axe to grind against Ben. I like him. I just think he's a mediocre actor. And hero roles kind of bring out his worst instincts.

Bale is a better actor. So is Clooney. That doesn't mean either of them was really right for the part. And the funny thing is, Bale got slagged for the thing he did which was truest TO Batman.

Affleck won't be that bad.

I like Patrick Wilson for the role, though.

I don't think he's well cast as Batman but what the heck, it's a cartoon. I think Bale chews the furniture on lots of his stuff, including Batman, so it doesn't say much about a performance to say another actor could do better. There's lots of actors I would have rather seen in lots of roles. It just comments on what you like.

I thought Affleck was great in Hollywoodland, the others I guess are a pick 'em

I don't think he'll bad so bad as Batman. I also don't really care, because nothing is going to top what Chris Nolan pulled out especially with the first two of his trilogy. Hard to take it too serious anyway, to me it's just another popcorn flick now that Nolan is off and his trilogy is completed.

I think my biggest problem with it is that I've always seen Superman as the pretty boy (a la Cavill's immaculately polished face and jutted chin), and Batman as the hard-edged, weary and worn "Private I" type. Affleck just doesn't have the face for it, especially not with Snyder saying he was going for the older Batman of the Miller GN.

Wait -- he's in the top 30 of actors, and he's mediocre? I'm... confused.

Thirty other CASTABLE actors, actors a studio would actually put in a movie. Ben is a star, there's no doubt about that, but he became a star more on his looks and charm than his acting chops.

I've never really loved any performance of Afflecks. Sometimes I don't mind him in things like Changing Lanes, Mallrats but that's about it.

Jim Caviezel should have got the call for Bats.

I heard Snyder is kind of basing this on Dark Knight Returns. If they were being faithful to the graphic novel, someone like Bryan Cranston would be Batman as he's 55 in it. I know that would never happen.

Interesting choice to say the least. I'm not thrilled, but I'll reserve further judgement until I see the trailer.

I was also upset about Robert Downey Jr being cast as Iron Man, but boy was I proven wrong there.

The difference is that we hadn't really seen RDJ or HL in those types of movies before, but we have seen many examples of Ben Affleck in action / superhero movies, and the results have been mediocre at best.

Yeah, Daredevil sucked. But as an actor and a writer, I know that a lot of stuff I worked on 10 years ago sucked too.

Maybe Affleck will suck at it even now. I'm assuming there was a formal audition. Maybe he killed it. All I'm saying is I don't know. It's weird for me to try and pre-judge this movie or his performance. It would be a mighty stretch.

I think Ben Affleck has grown into a fine Writer / Director, but I still didn't really love his acting in THE TOWN or ARGO.

I've been back and forth on Ben Affleck as Batman, hating the idea at first. But I'm realizing a few things:

1 - He's been growing as an actor. Sort of like Will Smith, he's been pulling out better and better roles. Some don't think he's great, yet. The problem is he's been playing very subtle light characters, nothing we've been able to sink our teeth in yet.

2 - Daredevil is a great example of why he shouldn't do it, but going back to #1, this was when he was still new. Also the problem could have easily also been the script and director, because let's be honest, he wasn't the only bad thing about the film. EVERYTHING was bad about the film.

3 - The Heath Ledger effect. This has happened with many roles, from Joker to Bond. An actor is chosen to play some iconic character, the internet goes crazy angry about the choice basing the person off various other roles they've done. Petitions are signed (I think that's already began?), and then the trailer comes out and everyone shuts up. I'm not saying this will happen exactly the same way, since Ben Affleck has a huge rap sheet. However keep in mind Bryan Singer is the same director who chose Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine. He may have seen Affleck in the audition room/screen test doing something amazing with the role that we haven't seen. Maybe he brings something perfect to a tired batman, an older one who's ready to give up the cowl. Who knows!

I'd prefer to save my judgement for the trailer instead of complaining now. We'll have plenty of time to complain when the trailer comes out.
