New Batman cast...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...Stay behind the camera Ben. You're much better at it.

It's funny, because if he had been announced as director of a new Batman movie, I probably wouldn't mind it, but playing Batman... I don't like it at all.

I'm not thrilled, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see the teaser at least. With The Town alone, he earned himself a chance.

You know, I can't really think of a single Ben Affleck performance I've ever thought was great. Christian Bale gave a great performance when he was 12.

Though, I will say the combination of Snyder as director and Affleck as the Bat makes me think this is going to be a stylized train wreck. Especially after rewatching Man of Steel again recently, and realizing that the film is actually even s--ttier than The Dark Knight Rises.

Still holding out hope, though, till I see the teaser.

I thought his performance in The Town was solid, and I suspect if he'd played Renner's role, he'd have earned the same Oscar nod.

I don't think he could have pulled it off. Solid is the absolute BEST you can say about his acting. But I've never seen him act and been impressed.

Neither have I, really, though I thought he played a well-written character in Good Will Hunting, and one that I suspect he had a great deal in writing, given the similarities between that and the James Coughlin character.

But honestly, no-one thought Affleck could do s--t as a writer/director either until he proved everyone wrong. Though, admittedly, we've had far more examples of his acting... <grin>

I just can't see Ben investing the character with the same levels of angst and tortured gravitas that Bale pulled out of it. I don't think it's in Ben's wheelhouse. He's best at playing smug, kind of douchey characters. He'll be a lighter Batman, but that will be a step backwards. They might as well get Joel Schumacher to direct it at this point.

That's a good point. Personally, I was really hoping for someone like Bardem to take over the role, but you gotta roll with the punches, I guess. Unless Ben pulls out at the last minute.

I heard they were thinking of casting an older Batman, which got my hopes up for someone like Jon Hamm. Oh well. I didn't care much for Man of Steel anyway so I don't know why I would think the next will be any better.

To me, the real disappointment is the fact that there's going to be another Batman movie. Why so soon?

I'm not upset in any way, because I wasn't much interested in the film to begin with.

All I will say in regards to Affleck is that people had a similar reaction to this when Ledger was announced as the Joker. Not saying Affleck is in the same league as Ledger, but we should give the guy the benefit of the doubt for now.

Affleck?!!? Really? So much for all the talk, now false hope, for Wes Bently. Matt Damon will be robin in the next installment for sure.
