NEW and OLD Genus Matte Box

I just received NEW AND IMPROVED Genus WIDE ANGLE Matte Box. After a quick and dirty couple of images, I posted main differences and side to side "portraits" of both units. My first impression is that the "new" box is better and more reliable than old one.

WARNING: when ordering new matte box, please MAKE SURE that you are getting the updated model. I found that some of the retailers in North America have wrong SKU numerations and mixed up photos of the product they sell.
I got my new unit from Genus HK directly.
Many thanks to Mr. Anthony Wong...:dankk2:

I have a Genus Wide Mattebox coming which True Lens Service in the UK is doing for me with french flag, barndoors and a new universal SWING AWAY piece (off the bottom rails). Total for all of this about $1000. It's about $250 more expensive than the Redrock, (which is great but more Cinema style-heavy and 4 x 4.56 filters, the Genus is 4 x 4) BUT it is light, solid easy to travel with and also with the ability to go Clamp-on. I think it is the best solution for this camera. If you are interested you can speak to Denise and Colin at TLS...

I second this.
Genus got the idea properly... Small, quality, versatile... And the price is not crazy....:dankk2:

Anyone has tried it with an Ex1? is the protude mic and lcd a problem like its on other matteboxes?

I got my "original" Genus Matte Box for my EX1, more than a year ago... I picked it because first review about the matte box was with EX1... No regrets. 'Have been using it with no issues (read: flip out screen issues...)...

FreshDV just posted our review of the Genus wide angle mattebox, which works equally well with 15mm rods or in clip-on mode. My nearly 10-min video review is here.

Hey guys,

I am hoping to be wrong here but I just received a Genus matte box and I am completely confused about the design of their PV mattebox.

f the goal of the mattebox is to protect your lens from the light, why is there some much space between the 2 filter holders (imagine you are shooting at noon on a sunny day with a filter in there)... I just don't understand this design :)

Am I missing something here?
