Netflix Instant Watch: What are you watching?

Watched Star Trek Into Dumbness, which I disliked even more upon second viewing, and the stream was crap. I have a fiber 50 Mbps connection and couldn't sustain Super HD quality. Action scenes broke apart into Youtube level compression. Sucks.

This thread is starting to remind me of the Louis ck "everything's great, no ones happy" rant.

i guess im biased, cuz our stream is pretty damn good through Cablevision and a wifi connection.

Agree or disagree?....season 2 of 'house of cards' is f-ing awesome.

I like the way it's lit this season. It seems slightly brighter to me, there's more eye light and contrast and less of that overly green looking "Social Network" looking top light. That extreme Fincher look looks great in theaters but less at home on TV. I am extremely grateful for the way the move the camera on smooth dolly shots or lock it off. I really get sick of the spinny stedicam moves on network. TV. Adding Molly Parker to the cast makes it look pretty good too. ;)

The Extraordinary Adventures of Mademoiselle Blanc-Sec. It was really well written and had great special effects. Directed by Luc Besson. It's in French and subtitled, but well worth a watch.

Just saw "Eight Mile High", I really loved it. It's been a while since I saw one of those adventure movies, but at the end it was really a nice love story. For me this was one of those accidental gems I found. It's in German with English subtitles.

A River Runs Through It. I don't know why I love this movie. It's slow as dirt. Nothing much happens. It couldn't be further from any of my experiences and I have never fished a day in my life. But this film mesmerizes me from beginning to end. The cinematography is gorgeous (it won an Oscar for it). The music is beautiful. Redford's narration of the poem it's based on stirs the soul. Brad Pitt gives one of his best performances. Craig Sheffer was never better. Emily Lloyd is luminous (and if you google what happened to her since it's one of the saddest stories in Hollywood). Joseph Gordon Leviitt also gives his debut performance looking like he just got out of diapers and making me feel very old. Watching it again as a father it resonates even more deeply with me than it did when I first saw it. I recommend it highly if you enjoy slower, lyrical and more contemplative films. It's a film made up of small moments and has the rhythm of real life to it.

i'm a sucker for anything that involves a group of strangers working together to figure things out.

on a side note, has it really been 2 years since anyone posted to this thread? geez, time flies.

I was into Black Mirror for a while, but it all pretty much runs together after a while. We get it: technology sucks.

I keep hearing how this company is supposed to be some kind of media juggernaut in the next few years. Not if they don't improve their streaming selection!

2020: Yeah, how'd that all work out for Netflix? Don't hear much from them these days.

yes on River Runs Through It. I always get choked up at the end, and at that last sad dinner table scene.

Just finished the first season of Dark... It's a pale shadow of Lars von Trier's The Kingdom and the very dark scenes were painful to watch on my P65VT30 plasma.
