Hi,
What do you think about this laptop for same day AVCHD edits:

processor: Intel Core i7 M620
Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz Dual Channel
Hard drive: 640GB SataII 5400rpm
GPU: ATI Radeon 5650 1GB
HDMI Port
Optical disc: DVD MULTI
Wireless communication: B/G
Memory card reader: SD/MMC/MS/XD
Integrated camera + microphone

The videos I'm gonna edit with it are msotly simple ones: some transitions, maybe a few time remaps and speed changes, that sort of thing.
I'd like to know if this laptop will do the job
Thanks

the hdd is sata2 though, and raw avchd bitrates are well under even 5400rpm sata2 read/write rates. should be ok i'd think. but 7200 is always better!

I would also look for Gigabit Ethernet. There could be times you need to move things around to another computer/server, back up footage, so on.

Once edited, what are you doing with the files? I often use my home server to FTP rough edits to my client's FTP, and I'm not bogging down my NLE with anything unnecessary.

If this is just for web-fun videos, it's a good laptop. There's a knack for knowing what hardware and environment you work best with. Me, I'll take a fast desktop in my suite versus an iPad at a Starbucks. But you keep your ambitions in check with the hardware you've got, and it's all good.

I've got an old Acer One netbook in my kit, it keeps me connected when I travel, it runs my teleprompter software, I make frequent backups of my SDHC cards to it's large internal drive, just a generally handy little device, but it can't edit AVCHD. Only a few times I wished I could, but that was me bored at the airport. Otherwise it's like my 150's partner in crime.

Hi, thank you all for your replies.
I have decided to go with this computer, I'm gonna upgrade the hdd to 7200 and the ram to 6 gb.
Hopefully it will give me what I need.

I think it will a good editing laptop . The best of luck with it.

I think with the HDD and DDR upgrage you will have no problems
