Need reccomendations for low cost used lenses for 7D video

I don't know what your idea of low cost is but the canon 50mm 1.8 is pretty much the cheapest lens you can buy new. It is also amazing and beats out many others, and takes clear video in very low light and works very well with the 7D. I feel canon should rehouse that lens in a sturdy metal body and sell it for more money.

For under $500 you have a bunch of options.

They kinda do already. The first version of the 50mm has a metal mount and nicer body. It can be found on KEH and the like. It's a bit more expensive, usually double the price of the 2nd plastic version

If the lenses are specifically for video, then I think that old manual focus lenses offer an extremely attractive value proposition. You can get a set of primes for the cost of a new AF lens.

1. Sigma 30mm 1.4 or Sigma 28mm 1.8 would be one of my first primes
2. Tamron 17-50mm or Sigma 16-50mm both at 2.8 should be good for your wides.
with those two lenses you should be relatively set for a decent amount of time. the canon 50mm is a great lens but kinda wasted on the 7d (wasted is probably a strong word) just bc it will work as more of a 80mm then a 50mm lens on the 7d.

Zuiko 28mm 3.5
SMC Pentax 50mm 1.4
Jupiter 85 2.0
Vivitar 135mm 2.8

All of those lenses combined should be about $300 total. Or substitute the Takumar 50mm 1.4 for the SMC and save $50

Buy yourself m42 adapter ,you wont regret it ,lenses arent expensive, you can get 3 prime m42 lenses in price of one 50mm canon lens. They will be cropped but its worth it.

That 50mm is still great for those extreme closeups and DOF fun.

With M42, I cannot see too many options for fast wides angles below f2.8. I have a Takumar 35mm f2, but I don't know anything wider - out there with f2.... :-(
If you are lucky to get a good one, as a mid telephoto, Jupiter-9 is a gem.
