NEED HELP with macbook and P2

I have a macbook 2.2 core 2 duo and 4 gig ram. I am trying to edit with FCP 5.0.4 and it is not working at all. I get codec errors, out of memory errors and nothing is going right! FCP does not control the camera at all, but the P2 card shows up on the desktop. All files are there. The P2 Viewer shows thumbnails, but only plays back audio. The video is all white. Everything plays back fine in camera. I just got this cam 5 days ago! What am I missing?? HELP!

For starters, you should be using FCP 5.1.4 or later. Earlier versions had various problems with P2 support. If you can't see the video, you didn't install the DVCProHD component that comes with FCP.

You also don't control the HVX using FCP like you do with a tape-based camera or deck. You should be using the Log and Transfer function, which was renamed to (I think) P2 Import in FCP 6.

Not just P2 support either.

I've seen the white video as well. The codec support in earlier versions of FCP leaves something to be desired. Upgrading to a more recent version of FCP (especially Final Cut Studio 2) resolved my problems. I also recommend transferring the clips off the P2 card to an external HD for the purpose of logging and transferring.

As THoff points out, FCP 5.0.4 is not compatible with Intel Macintoshes.

You need 5.1.4 or later. 5.1.4 isn't sold anymore.

You need to upgrade to FCS2.

Apple offered a cross grade for a year and a half to make FCP compatible with Intel Macs. Price was about $49.00.

It's more now.

Ok, here is the problem. I cannot see clips in P2 viewer either. Just white with audio. If I boot into xp pro, same computer using windows version of P2 viewer works! Also, I ordered Final Cut Studio (not 2) for the macbook. It should be intel compatible right? I may need a link on where to find the 5.1.4 update if apple wont offer it. I don't think the new macbook can run FCS2.

If the version of FCP isn't 5.1.4, then it will still produce the issue you have.

Where did you "order Final Cut Studio (not2)?"

You can't order it, because it is not available from Apple.

P2CMS will not overcome the white issue. If you're using a Mac, you MUST have FCP installed because FCP installs the DVCPRO-HD Quicktime components.

Ive had software. I got studio at U of K bookstore while at college. I just sold the G5 tower it was on about 6 months ago, and reinstalled it on the intel mac. I also just got camera last week, now having trouble. Sorry to imply I just got software.
