New to site and I have done a search for help in choosing editing software compatable with 24p. I use pinnacle studio 11. To best of my knowledge, it captures only in 30i so it is not much use. can anyone recommend a cheap edditing software compatable with 24p (Capture, edit, output to DVD.) If so where can one get the best buy. I am new to internet buying and am just finding out about all the shady sites. May have made huge mistake from buying 100b from Fotoconection.com. Haven't received 100b yet from them. Didn't know about this site till after I made purchase. Any help appreciated. I have a HP computer w/ Duo-core 1.89 and a 8600 Nvidia graphic card.

I would look into Vegas from sony, BH has some options which may be worthwhile to go from version 6 and upgrade to 8 for less than 8 but you have to check if that is still available. Also if you are not HD you may be ok with version 6 or version 7 which will be less expensive. I was using version 7 with HD wonderfully, and have moved to 8 for some of the advanced features and ability to also use avchd which I am just playing with so I do not have to jump around to work with everything. But to me Vegas is the best bet in the PC world and in some aspects in both mac and pc world as far as bang for buck.

I recommend Vegas as well, but you can shoot 24p now and use it in Pinnacle 11. 24p is carried in a 60i stream and should be edited in a 60i timeline, all of which Pinnacle offers.
I see on e-bay vegas 7 full version for $50.00. to $299.00. Do you think it is ligit? The sellers all rate 99.9% approval. Somewhere on this site I read that only the full version of vegas will do 24p. Is that true?
I would love to get more info on this. I searched pinnacles faq and all I come up with is no support for 24p even in the avid liquid pro 7 except with a jvc camera. The only reference to 60i was with HD. 24p Is so new to me that I am totally lost. I really appreciate the help you have given.

24p is true 24 progressive frames captured and then inserted into a 60i video stream using 2-3 pull down. It is meant to be edited in a 60i stream, what other camcorders record. 24pA is the type of 24p that is meant to be edited in a 23.976 time line and outputted as native 24p.
Basically if you shoot 24p (not 24pA) you can edit in anything that supports a 60i time line (everything) while retaining the aesthetic of 24p. Your editing program won't be the wiser.

For now i would just stick with Pinnacle and shott 24p. Then when you are ready for something more, look into Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas.

Shoot 24p, edit in Studio11 with 60i timeline, finish to NTSC DVD and you should be good to go.
hi all I'd like to ask; does Vegas have decent effects or can you buy them later?.. I have a dodgy copy of Premiere running but am having problems capturing - was looking to get After Effects running .. my friend works for Apple is desperatley trying to have me buy a Mac and run Final Cut but I'm not that advanced TBH. I need simple editor with decent effects..
