Need Advice on Logging, Paring Down Footage

I just finished a doc shoot with the hvx and now have about 700gb of footage spread over three 300gb ata drives (and backed up on the same). What I'd like to do is view the footage and place all my first select imports onto one 300gb drive, kind of like logging and capturing in dv land. Any advice on how to acheive this?
Thanks,
Adam

FCP 5.1. Right now I'm just using my 15" Powerbook 1.67 with external ata firewire drives. I don't expect to use this setup for anything more then basic assembly. When I get to the stage that I have to do any more with the footage then I'll either use a friend's edit suite or upgrade my setup.

We imported some files into FCP while we were on location so we could check the footage, but we didn't save that stuff.

Ok, then update to 5.1.2 if you haven't already.

The new P2 Import window is great for viewing and logging and it now contains a rewrap batch and background wrapping so you can continue to log while it's rewrapping.

In short: Just set the new drive as the scratchdisk, create a new project on it, open the P2 import window, Drag some of your P2 backup folders into the source list and start logging....

There is a guide on the New P2 import window in the FCP help menu. It's called "HD and broadcast formats" Flip to page 75.

I would adwise you to maybe start with one P2 card backupandI go through the process to be sure you are logging it correctly......

WARNING: If you delete a clip in the source list it will be deleted from the source drive!!!

In response to the deleting of clips off the scource drive with no warning dialogues, I'm changing the permissions of my scource directory (and all it's contents) to read only once I know it's complete with all the footage for the job.

Well, could be one more reason to format the source drive to NTFS if you offload on a PC and edit in FCP.....
