NBA Playoffs Thread

I knew the Celtics would take it a few minutes into the first game. They just seemed more together than the Lakers. One of my greatest regrets is not ever seeing the Jackson-Kobe-Shaq Lakers play at the Staples Center.

Before the series I thought the Lakers were way better--especially after they handled the Spurs, but once game one started, I had a terrible feeling, felt the same way against the Pistons in the finals last time. The Celtics just looked better from the first tip off.

Maybe it comes down to the old maxim that seems to hold for every single sport at every single level: Defense wins championships.

Next year. Next Year. Next year. If that aircraft carrier stays healthy and his knee is okay, could be a different story.

really weird that the celtics have played the best playoff bball against the toughest team...to be honest I thought they were flawed and doomed since the first round after dropping 3 to the lowly hawks.

it just goes to show that Rasheed Wallace was right when he stated that "the nba is as fixed as wrestling."

Here's an interesting little tidbit from Dwight Jaynes of the Portland Tribune discussing the officiating scandal:

"Nearly every NBA person I’ve spoken with about this — people who work inside the league — believe some or all of what Donaghy said about game results being manipulated for the good of the league. That, in itself, is mind-boggling."

already have!

gave up the biggest lead ever! :violin:

If the Lakers win the series, we will see the biggest single game comeback, as well as the biggest series comeback. crazy to think about huh?

Tonites officials are Eddie F. Rush, Bennett Salvatore, and Joey Crawford. That is a murderers row of controversial referees. Should be an interesting game.

Let's go back to the 2006 NBA Finals:

Heat up 91-90 with 27 seconds. Wade jacks Nowitzki, Nowitski is called for the foul and Wade goes to the foul line. Heat win the game.

There were many phantom fouls in that series if you remember. Wade, alone shot 97 free throws in 6 games. That is 16 free throws a game, and the most free throws shot in a series by one player ever...and they only played 6 games.

Here is a link to the phantom foul I referred to earlier. There are also others from that series in the related videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y8nI1PPYOk&feature=related

Will Gasol and Odom show up tonight? Lakers are tough when those two perform.

Odom was out on a bender after game 5 allegedly.
