Native Editing Of AVCCAM/AVCHD Files In Final Cut Pro Announced by Panasonic

Google "Panasonic PASS". Click the first link. Sign into the PASS site. Should be one of the links in the News section. Good luck.

@Bobby

i came in a bit late i think. the link does not show in the latest news and when I search for it, i couldn't find.
Do you know what it may be called? perhaps I am looking for the wrong thing.

It opens up new transcode options tho since QuickTime can now read the files. For example a couple weeks ago I had a shoot where I had to mount my AF100 sideway. I transcoded all the clips to prores at a custom frame size thru MPEGsteam Clip and rotated the clips 90 degrees all in one step. Before this plugin I would have had to do this in 2 steps.

Hey - semi-off-topic (but related): can anyone comment on the workflow of AVCCAM/AVCHD with AVID, as compared to FCP?

I'm thinking of switching.

Thx

Not used Avid but I have made timecode window burns with Premiere Pro CS5 right off the native media on the card. Loved it. Oh how I wish a 64 bit FCP 8 was the way Apple would have went. Sorry way off topic.

AVCHD is a one click import into avid on MC vers 5+ - just select your preferred DNxhd resolution and away you go. No native reading off the card tho.

i got this feedback from the support team (they added FCP X because I mentioned i use FCP7) :

The plug-in software, mentioned on the user forum would be an "AVCCAM Importer" as
you can download from our support site below.

https://eww.pass.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/desk/e/avc_download.htm#avccamip

However, since this software is optimized for our professional AVCHD formats, clips recorded
on equipment other than AVCCAM (our professional AVCHD) will not be handled properly,
we are afraid.

According to Apple Inc., the latest version of final cut pro (version X) supports AVCHD format
natively. HDC-TM700 camera is listed as their qualified camcorder.

Could you check if the FinalCutPro X is an affordable option?

I downloaded the plug in for FCP7 and it works, but sluggishly. I have a Mac tower 8-core 2.8, but then FCP is only 32 bit, so I can't view externally to another monitor. I have to use the canvas for playback. Any ideas on how to speed things up?

Transcoding to ProRes unfortunately. The [plug in just doesn't work very well with the EOL'ed FCP7.
