Other than the huge price drop in P2 card prices, larger capcity. A cheaper DVX100b. And the HPX500. No, nothing.

Gee, opinions differ. Personally, I think this is extremely, extremely lame. When somebody posts in the DVX100 section, obviously, they are asking about the DVX100 replacement. And then indeed, there is zero good news.

Again, personal opinion. Nothing exciting to me. P2 - yes, they dropped the price, but it's still prohibitively expensive. It's $900 - give. me. a. break. If they had originally asked for a million and dropped it to half a million - it would still be stupid expensive even after the drop. Look, the P2 cards are nothing more than a kind of flash memory. With 16GB flash drives going for aroud $120 these days, you can figure what kind of profit margin Panny is making when they charge the prices they do. Yes, they need to make small alterations in the interface, but that still does not come anywhere near these prices. Their true cost of manufacturing has got to be no more than about $100. The rest is simply profit - a way of holding their users hostage by making the media a profit center (a Sony tactic). Drop the prices to about $300, and we'll talk. $900 is still 3 times too much IMHO.

The price drop on the DVX100 - a joke. It's possible to get the A1 for around $2999.00 these days. What a joke - if they dropped the prices seriously we could talk, this kind of drop is just silly, given the competition.

And the HPX500 - at a list price of $14K, is really outside of many of the readers considering the DVX100. Obviously the HPX 500 is marketed to somewhat price insensitive customers. And that makes me wonder if they aren't shooting themselves in the foot. If I were to actually look at the HPX500, I may as well go for Red - the price starts being irrelevant.

What we really needed was a replacement for the DVX100 - and that Panny failed to do. Lame, lame, lame.

Sorry, but for many of us, Panny had nothing of interest at NAB. I'm sure for others they did. Different strokes for different folks.

What Panasonic needs to do is nothing. They've introduced HD 2/3" form-factor P2 cameras and more peripherals.

SD is quickly, quickly on it's way out. I predict that you're not going to see a 16:9 SD 1/3" 3-chip camera from Panasonic ever.

SD = done.

Err, when we speak of a DVX100 replacement, why do you think we want SD retained? We want a camera that does what the DVX100 does PLUS MORE, and at a price point that's not greater than the DVX100. The HVX200 does more, but it costs a heck of a lot more, and therefore is not a replacement for the DVX100 price-wise. Canon A1 comes close - at least it's the same territory. So what's all this talk about SD when speaking of a replacement for the DVX100? If Canon can do it, why can't Panny? We were hoping Panny would compete in this price segment of the market with a replacement for the DVX100. Now, if you say Panny should do nothing and just let Canon eat their lunch in this market segment, then that's an opinion, and one I disagree with. YMMV.

OldCorpse has a point. I was hoping to see something from Panny that would compete with the Canon A1 and the Sony V1. However, if you make your Canon A1 a G1 by purchasing the "Jack Pack" or whatever it's called, you're in the $7,000 range which is HVX territory.

My 8-5 is packed with Sony purists and I'm the one guy that has gone out and purchased the DVX and had a few opportunities to shoot on the SDX900.

It's hard to get excited about the HPX-500 if it's out of your price range. I did get my hands on an HDX-900 the other day and OMG!!!!

If I can land a few more side jobs, I'll upgrade to the HVX but the HPX500 with the 2/3" chip set at $14,000 appears to be almost worth the leap if I can land the work.
