NAB 2018 New Products

The z-cam is a true sensor in a box! For $2,000 it has nice specs but would you use this over a GH5 for the same money? Unless you need 4k 120p. I wonder how it handles color and different modes - Log, profiles menu adjustments etc... People focus on specs but sensors need their data turned into nice images or the thing will look like a scientific camera. Sensors are kind of getting crazy these days.

yeah z cam is cool but too specialized. I can wait for 4k 120p 10-bit. But that in a tiny box with m43 sensor. Shows you what we should reasonably be expecting on the next gen GHx and S35 camera systems.

I don't think 4k 120fps 10-bit 422 and internal raw on DSLR bodies is far off...

Why is it specialized?
You don't have to shoot 120fps with it. I think its form factor beats the hell out of the BMPCC. Add a VF, handle and you have a proper Bolex with amazing specs. I don't think 1.7Gbps and 10 bit is anything to sneeze at. The adaptive AF to boot... I didn't even know this was possible. This is a wake up camera with the tech so far advanced that most film makers don't understand it....hence the fear, hence the rejection. Don't be afraid guys!!!

Because it's not a strong out of box solution with ergos and takes a lot of rigging vs something ready to go like an EVA1, GH5, A7S, or yes, even the BMPCC. That doesn't make it bad. It definitely makes it specialized in terms of design or form factor.

And for what? There are only a few things it can do that other options can't do as well, likely better.

Still a great device.

I guess it's a matter of opinion- adding a handle and a VF is not a lot of rigging for me but it may be for somebody else. Certainly not as much as adding a base plate, shoulder mount, FF (EVA)or cage, base plate and a follow focus , extra battery and possibly a view finder as well (BMPCC)

At $2000 and a shakey track record. Yeah go ahead. I think I can get more usable footage out of the box with a BMPCC 4K than
this.

If I don't need stills or weather sealing or IBIS, then for sure I'd seriously consider the Z Cam E2 over the GH5.

The more interesting comparison is vs the (slightly) more expensive GH5S or the cheaper BMPCC4K

Add a battery grip (wish they had one like the Kinefinity Terra cameras have) and a SmallHD Focus monitor and you're good to go!

OMG

Z-cam has a "deep learning engine"?
Is this a bad translation..or..?

Not a bad translation, just grandiose language. All cameras with face-detection AF use deep learning algorithms. Same for your phone when it does voice recognition. It's just an algorithm.

Now, my question: does the Zcam shoot raw video?

Thanks. If it does raw then it is the perfect alternative to the pocket4k for people who wish it was just a brick.
(I thik I'll go with the 5" screen, though)
