NAB 2017 rumors?

It's also big for an F65!!

Anyway, my feeling about rumors these days is best summarized by the current state at sonyalpharumors: they know something will be announced in the next hour or two, but they have no clue about what it is: "...this might be the first real Sony PRO camera (...) and/or a new RX camera or something completely unexpected". So: just hours to go, and the only thing rumor sites know is WHEN it will happen.

Sometimes they have no information and sometimes they'll tell you the exact specs a few days in advance.

Just how it is in every business...some information is harder to obtain.

It's mostly for photography...insane speed and a crazy amount of AF points, etc.

The big accomplishment for them is it's the, "World’s first full-frame stacked CMOS sensor, 24.2 MP resolution".

It does have over-sampled (6K) full-frame 4K, but I stopped reading when I saw no 4K/60p.

It seems like the A9 offers much faster sensor read-out which should reduce rolling-shutter, it also incorporates the much faster UHS-II memory slots.

I've been waiting a long time for one, and was sure it would arrive this year, but others hinted at 2018.

I was hoping for a NAB surprise like they did in 2014 with the first version (the A9 is a nice surprise for photographers), but don't think we'll see it until Fall if it comes this year.

Looks like May for the release. I did not see any video specs to know if 4k60 is in the mix. I bet since the readout is fast they should be able to do 4k60 if the heat is taken care of.

This does signal some nice cameras around the corner for Sony.

It's 8-bit video too. Still, it should fly off the shelves.

Now for that videocentric camera ...

Yeah, I got bored when I read 8-bit 4:2:0 for UHD (and no DCI 4K).

The 10-bit will slowly trickle in. After the GH5, everyone will think they need 10-bit so you'll see it everywhere eventually...even from Canon one day.

(Talking prosumer cameras of course...they all have professional cameras with more specs/features.)

Strange they would announce a more photo centric camera at NAB.

It's not strange...I've posted this a million times already, but the a7S (which is not really a video camera even though it has the most video features) was announced in 2014 at NAB.

There are no rules anymore.

The main goal is to make money. Make as much money as possible. You have to constantly stay competitive and relevant or a drone or phone is going to out-spec you.

You announce whatever you want whenever you want.

Looks like DaVinci is introducing a update to Resolve at NAB......skipping version 13
and going directly to version 14 (because we all know 13 is unlucky!) Those guys are
really working hard on making Resolve into a good NLE as well as color
grading solution.

I am desperately hoping they have improved the live grading aspect of Resolve, so it can be used on set to build LUTS as you shoot, with all the functionality of Pomfort Livegrade (multiple camera support etc). It only makes sense.

The a9 looks great for sports photographers (though some lenses are still missing). I think it will be great for video too. Keeping it stills-centric for yesterday's announcement makes sense to me: they'll have a more video-centric a9 presentation on the 23rd.

My expectations for the video side of the a9, on the a9 thread.
