I have been wanting to say this for a bit so Im making a blog post out this on here for fellow users to read and let me know thoughts.
I have been using the NX1 for a good amount of time now and its really is an amazing camera with little fault. The 4K image is just epic, the 120fps is great. The feel and build of the camera are top level in my mind. The stills have a huge amount of detail and DR making it a great camera for most photography.
With the news of a new rumor I have some thoughts that I would like to see if it is true what is happeing with the NX1 and its true it has all this power people say it does. So these are just what I would like to see, things that I would hope Samsung does and things that I see they can do while still making a NX2 in a year or two that will make me want to upgrade as well.
NX-Log - GH4 is getting it, Sony has it. Log is a huge thing for color grading even in a 8 bit area, give us that best you can since we know the sensor has a great DR.
10bit 422 H265 - H265 can support the 10bit 422 files, so make the NX do it along with the Log it would be a huge step up for many filmmakers. Make it so it runs a test on the camera to make sure you have UHS 2 card even. Call it Cinema Mode. 10bit 422 with NX-Log
HD at 180fps - 240 would be amazing but even 180 for 5 seconds of buffered filming would be a great step up. 120 is just the next step for many in the next year. Go above that and stand out from the crowd. Make the NX2 have 240 or even higher
4K Higher FPS - This is a lot to ask for in such a small camera but at 4K crop make a higher FPS and leave full sensor readout for the NX2
Move Mode - Make it so a Custom setting dial can be a movie only mode so we can just leave it on there all the time
Focus Peaking Upgrade - Focus Peaking needs to be able to be turned off and turned on. Not turned off every time shutter is hit or recording stops
Clean Outputs 10 Bit - If we cant get 10 Bit inside the camera lets get it out the HDMI for us to rent or buy when we need the better the color space.
Raw Video Mode - Raw is great but out of everything here its the last thing we need really in this camera.
Noise Reduction Turned Off - We need a setting to just get rid of this all together.
I love the NX1, an amazing camera that Im using for new work on a MMA shows and right now the URSA Mini is looking amazing to me, it has everything I need for a great price, but NX1 would still be a gimbal camera, a small camera for most things. But I feel Samsung can becoming the top in Mirror-less with some improvements in the camera and showing off what it can do, not being a NAB with a reel was a bad move.
What are your thoughts on this? Hopefully Samsung can see this. Ill be posting my full review soon.
