T2i My t2i wont turn ON! HELP ME, please

I followed this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vct2mud2F1U but i dont know if i turn my camera off a bit early after i saw the text "DONE!", after the installation of ml.fir

Also, after that update, when i opened the card in the pc to delete the ml.fir and fix the card with eoscard, and copy the other files, i saw two new files: LOG000.LOG and ROM0.BIN

I left them, cos i didnt knew what they were. Anyway, i tried several times to turn on the camera, but nothing happened, with or without the card, and the battery was almost full, so i doubt it had something to do with this.

you need to mark your SD card as bootable, than you need to extract the ML firmware onto the memory card you are using with the t2i
than you should be able to turn it on.

Have you tried switching it on with a different memory card? Upon first realising the camera was not working, did you immediately switch it off and remove the battery, like the ML installation guide (and every other thread on ML issues) advises?

i thought that using eoscard made it bootable. do i need to do something else? or is there another way to make it bootable in my pc (as i cant turn on the camera to format the sd card there)?

i cant try with another card, since i only own one sd. also, i did inmediatly turn it off as you say, but after following the last steps, and tried to use again the card to see ml, the camera didnt turn on, so i quickly removed the battery, then i tried again with and without the card again.

usually how much time does the ml firmware update takes? i hope i didnt turn off the camera a bit too soon... but i did saw the "DONE!" text in a black screen, so, i dont know if i had to wait a bit more. i turned it off after two or so seconds of watching that.

If it said "Done", it's already installed. Try formatting the card, it should boot without ML.

On my camera, if I start without card, I get a black screen, but the viewfinder and autofocus work. Not sure why... it may be a side effect of ML experimenting. It was working fine one month ago, when I was using the card reader. Now I'm only using the USB cable and PTP.

How can i format it properly, without using the camera? in my case theres nothing that tells me its on, so i beleive its off :P not even the autofocus works.

I'm not trying to talk down to you but you missed a step. I have not idea which one but you did. If you have a card reader (which I assume you do because you used EOSCard) you can format on your PC. Then insert card into camera and you will see that everything is normal, just like it was before you installed ML. Then you can try again. Review the instruction very carefully. If ML is already flashed on Cam you should be able to make card bootable again, load ML package and use the awesomeness that is ML. Oh yeah and thank a1ex and Tramm.

yep i feel that must have happened, but which step i could have missed? i double checked the firmware of the camera was 1.0.9 before low formating the card, and installing ml. i hope it doesnt turn on because its flashed, and not because ml didnt update the camera properly.

how i can format the card from windows, so it can be compatible with the camera again, and to add all the files to give it another chance ...before wasting money :S to fix it. please, could you recommend me a tutorial "for dummies"?

i really wish to work with ml. i need that. Thanks to you all. help me fix this, i really dont want to pay someone to repair this hahaha

Do you see any sign of life, like blinking the card LED?

I'd try this:
- Remove battery and card
- Format the card in your PC (full format)
- Use EOScard to make sure the card is not bootable (don't click anything, just look at it)
- Put battery and card in the camera
- Make sure all doors are closed
- Start the camera

Other things to try (if it doesn't work):
- Format the card in another 550D (borrow one from a friend)
- Leave the camera without battery for around one day (this fixed a strange issue with mirror locked up)

Thanks, gonna try that.

And, nope, there isnt a single sign of life. i wish i could see the led on, but sadly, nothing happens. not a single sound...
hahaha, a bit dramatic, but well its almost new (just a month old)!

That's probably because you wore out the card slot on your 550d after about 200,000 builds in a 3 month period!
That's right. I also have to insert a bus ticket near the card (otherwise I get "card error").

There were some similar issues with ML (camera seemed dead)... and it was because card or battery door was not properly closed. I've also tried a few times to start my camera without battery and I was wondering why it doesn't boot...

It's also worth trying with another card.

well, i hope not. all is new, and i charged it before updating so i dont think its empty.

going to check that also, anything >:)

also going to check if that could be, but i do remember that i turned it on once, when it was a week or so new, without closing the battery door. and with the door open and closed, it hasnt turned on, so im clueless... ill be patient. check your theories, and hope something works.

If you boot with a bootable card, but without autoexec.bin, the camera will not boot but it will drain the battery without saying anything. After recharging, it went to normal.

Before installing ML, I've had a few stability problems with the camera (including corrupted files), but I think it was because I did not turn it off (I was always leaving it in stand-by). Now I always turn it off and seems fine.

I have a strong feeling the issue is hardware. Basically, you might want to check the spring in the battery compartment. You many need to pull it outwards a little. It has happened to me many times that there isn't enough pressure on the battery to make contact. The spring on the inside creates pressure for it against the battery door, but sometimes it becomes compressed and thus, you lose connection. One way I found this out was by turning the camera on and rotating it quickly, at some points gravity would force it to make connection when it was upside down.

GUess what? Alex won, he. My camera is back! :D

Ok, i tried leaving the camera without battery for 24 hours, more or less, and now it does turn on! Wasnt the mirror locked: the whole camera didnt work. Also i didnt had to recharged it, since its full.
So now, any ideas of why that happened after the ml update?
what i must do now to avoid that strange error to happen again?

Im a bit afraid of using my sd, so, should i format it again before placing it in the camera?
Everyone has been really helpful, so thanks. really, he.

#1 THING TO DO IS BUY SECOND CARD!!! Sorry for all caps.

Even a 2GB card can be used as your control group, meaning no ML installed. If you have a problem and the control card fixes it then it is a ML issue. If the control card also fails then the issue is the camera. This reasoning will help the experts here if you have another issue.

@Soren, that was the first thing i did before placing it after the ml update. the autoexec.bin was there, along the other files. The camera didnt turn on... maybe i didnt left enough time the baterry out after installing magic lantern (i did opened the battery door, and took out for a second or two, before putting it back, and doing the last things to the sd).

@kgimedia i guess your are right, so im going to get one this weekend, just to be sure.

So, does anyone have an idea where the files LOG000.LOG and ROM0.BIN that appeared in the sd after the ml update might came from?

@soren hey, thanks a lot. i thought they might be a sympthom of something wrong. So where i can check the last safe build? i wouldnt want a joke, or one that is "too fresh" (because sometimes they still have minor bugs, and as you said, im still a bit worried because of my camera "bad behavior", hahaha)

Im from mexico, and here this (more or less) new cameras and DIY stuff currently arent very popular. I dont know anyone with another t2i 550d to back me up, and the friends that are into photo use an a200 or a 7d (which they havent modified, but maybe after i show them its safe and badass, they will)

Tomorrow (after buying a new sd) i will hopefully tell you the end of this (a bit maddening) ordeal :)
