My new slider

I just picked up my new slider from Dana Dolly. It really rocks.. I went through every slider at NAB, and while there are a lot of good ones out there, the Dana Dolly struck me as the most "old school" of the bunch. Very simple, solid, and smooth like butter. No turn handles, or belt drives, or stuff like that.. Just solid construction, and rolls smooth as glass. I also wanted something I could beat the hell out of, and this slider, it a tough little cookie.

I also LOVE the fact that I can decide how long the track is going to be, from 3ft - 20 ft.. Whatever I need. This was a major deal.. Very important.

It will take me some time to learn the finer points of this thing, but you can expect we will do a very nice video on it in the near future.

take care

Jay

Yeah, I am very interested in that set up. I like that I can put my Miller 30 head, with 100mm base in it and use it fully. It also has a very nice price.

The Dana Dolly is a GREAT tool...and Mike is a great guy (had some good conversation at NAB)...BUT, it is a DOLLY, not a slider.
They are two different animals, both very useful in their own way.

I also picked up a Dana Dolly and you could think of it as a giant slider if you want. I too looked at a virtually every slider at NAB, and decided the Dana fit my requirements best. Last week I did a shot for a client where we rigged the rails overhead and underslung the camera so we could float over some one sitting at a desk . I love the flexibility of the Dana.

We seem to be getting hung up on terms here (Like THAT never happens). For me, it's a slider, and a damn good one. Wanna call it a dolly? Fine.. I still like it.

I love it too...but it is called a Dana Dolly. To me a slider is more of an inexpensive, self-contained, very portable, quick set-up, fit into small areas type of tool for short camera movement.

You will get no arguement from me Zaza. I guess, whatever it is, I like it. There are a couple things about the "sliders" I like, but the cost does not justify the additional features.... for me

I have some buddies that have one. it's nice piece of kit.
I was thinking of getting one but already have a Skater knockoff as well as a slider.
I built a full size dolly a few years back and was going to cut it down to Dana Dolly size, but as soon as I do I know I'll need the full size dolly for a shoot.
So I'll just build another smaller platform and interchange my dolly wheels between the two.

I have a Dana Dolly as well. Can't say enough good things about it.

Using it on a feature shoot at the moment. We've used it from 4' to 20' and it has worked beautifully. Fast to set up and move. Highly recommended.

This thing looks easy enough to build. I already have the parts from my old diy dolly, now i just need a bowl for my tripod head. Neat!

I'm looking for a set up exactly like this dolly only full size, to run on the ground. Anyone know any good brands? I know you can build them easily but I can't really be stuffed. Dana Dolly looks excellent.

Jay- You can build one for about $170.00, it's an easy build for a professional slider, check it out: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?145701-DIY-IndieSlider...
All the information you need can be found in the first post.

Slide On!

I built a 'Dana Dolly' it's great for here at the studio, works best with a big O'Connor head and some weight. But my new fave is the MYT Works this thing is great! Lot's of attachment points, it's light and easy to set-up - and it will take a lot of weight. Not to mention smooth and silent…

How would it work inverted with an F7 or a Weaver Steadman head under slung?

I've been playing with the idea to use the MYT underslung, or even as a ubangi - but shooting has gotten in the way of innovation...

Let me know how it works out heavyG. I need a device that works both as Ubangi and / or underslung.

We are considering building our own. They are only based on ioff-the-shelf Linear Bearings when it coms down to it.

I can see that the MYT does have a lot of attachment ways . Thats cool.
If the bearings will run with weight (gravity) pulling down...I guess it will work underslung.
