My First Card Failure and Lost Clip Disaster!

:crybaby: so a 16gb Transcend just went south. :crybaby:

Its a new one we just purchased and were testing! (thank god I was testing it, and not on a shoot). We have 4 total and the 1st 3 purchased months ago work great.

Here is the kicker for me... it was corrupted in the new canon t1i or our computer trying to read it (not the hmc's). It doesn't even recognize it as a drive nor does cardrecovery work on it :(.

Looks like this will be going back... damn.

Does anyone else find this timing bizarre? I thought a lot of us have been using Transcend 16GBs for months now without any major problems. Now in this week there are 4 or 5 reports of them going south?

I'm not really familiar with Transcend Cards, but I'm pretty sure i read there are a lot of knock-offs from that brand on ebay... and for all the reading i been doing it looks like the Transcend Card you want to get is the Chinese model.

I'm not certain of this information, just thought of asking everyone that has had the Transcend fail where the card came from China or Taiwan or Elsewhere???

Yep.. they were the card to have. In our previous card posts we talked about how there are many different versions of the same card. I guess they put out a bad batch. I will be using the Panny and Delkin Devices cards more now :)

Superfresa66: This one that just crashed is Taiwan (from amazon), its all boxed up and ready to go back.

I have 2 China 16gb, 1 Korea 8gb and the 1 Taiwan 16gb just failed.

I also never formatted the card in the T1i, not that it should make that much difference. It was used a few times by the HMC with no problems.

Well checking again: I have 1 china, 1 Korea, 1 (no markings) and the 1 Taiwan just failed.

so Taiwan fails! this is what i have read... Maybe avoid the ones from Taiwan

Anyone else? where are your bad cards from?

I only have chinese made Transcend cards, but how are we suppose to know where they're from when you order them online ?

My Taiwan card came in a packaging exactly like this:

It says where its made on the back left, I guess you have to ask the retailer to check for you.

I guess as long as you buy them from a good seller, you could probably ask them before hand that you want the Chinese model... it you get the one from Taiwan just return it!

Do they sell those at local computer stores?

Wow, you live in a small country! i was reading a little bit about Suriname!... anyway, you could e-mail the sellers and ask for the Right model, Or different brand!!!

I think the potential for cheap knock-offs for these SD cards is huge, so to me I'm more wary of where I buy them. Where they are made is a close second. I don't know why a class 6 is better than a class 4, or how a Sandisk Extreme III is better than a normal Sandisk. All I know is I don't want to pay more than $50ea/16gb since the Transcends were $39. I want something that's not going to fail.

Verbatum makes a 32gb Class 6 for $99:

Thanks for noticing :)

Or I could bother some friends to take a look for me at theire local pc shop in the US.
Thanks

I have two Transcend SDHC, 16GB and 8GB, both labelled "Made in China", so far I have no problem at all. I would say it is no good to buy such things from unknown vendors or eBay. It is well known that some unscrupulous people will put the brand-name stick on cards that failed QC, and later sell them for lower prices.
I bought mine from Newegg, no complains at all. I would buy from them again. I think for most serious work, maybe you want to have a few Panasonic 16GB SDHC to prevent disasters.
Also I would recommend we post "great deals" whenever they pop out on the internet and we watch for each other's protection . Cheers!

Where are you all finding the "made in Taiwan" or "Made in China" labels? I've looked all over my card and only see yellow numbers on the back side. Is it underneath the sticker?

I just bought an HMC150 today, which comes with a 16GB Transcend memory card. Panasonic is having that special bundle package offer. Do you think there might be a connection? Should I be overly-wary of this "free" card I'm getting from them?

I thought Panasonic's 16GB free card offer was a Pansonic brand card (they advertised it as something ridiculous like "$320 value" - nobody sells it for that much). As I recall that was also a mail-in rebate program.

But that was several months ago - this is the new official offer?

The 'Made in' logo is on the back bottom of the card. Its faint yellow and you will need some light. I missed it on one too...

Ha...just kidding about that free card. It is a Panasonic, not Transcend. I wonder where I got Transcend from? Maybe the guy I bought from bundled it in to sell it or something...
