My First Card Failure and Lost Clip Disaster!

Hah, these e-tailers know a whole lot! not...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Transcend does not make SDHC card in China. All their memory chips are made in Korea, by Samsung. Transcend simply repackage it with their own sticker to mark their logo.

Thanks

Thank you for the response,
This Transcend 16GB SDHC card is made in Taiwan. There have been many reports of faulty cards from Taiwan.
The card I was trying to purchase were from China, which I have purchased before from Amazon. If you have the cards ‘made in China’ please send a replacement.
If you do not have the one made in china please refund me for the purchase.
I will have the item shipped back to you Monday.

Thanks,
Jon

Price jumped back up to $38.99?? boooooooo That lasted A DAY.

Of course it went up, they needed to sell all those Taiwan cards to make room for the Chinese model... Ok, maybe thats a bad joke. hopefully they're the right ones for the cam!

Not funny Superfresa... :)

Haha its bouncing around everywhere, now $36.99. btw... I got my Taiwan one from amazon... hoping newegg has better ones... I cant remember if it was newegg I got my 1st 2 Chinese models from, but I think so.

For my doc, I've been using 5 Taiwan-made 16GB Class 6 Transcend SDHC cards for 7 months now, and we've shot over 3.5 Terabytes of footage with them, over 50% of the time recording for the entire card, all in PH mode. With all of this, I've had a card give that error only twice, and both times it was seems related to the fact that I accidentally turned the camera off while recording. Other than that, I've never had another problem besides the fact that they didn't have GPS built in so I could locate it when I lost one of them. Sorry about your issues, but I wouldn't get up in arms or generalize about all of Transcend's cards based on a handful of people's experiences. They've been rock-solid for me, and we swap them out constantly with the camera on while not recording.

So ha ha... you were right :)

The 2 that I ordered were both from Taiwan... based on jscheib's post though, should I give them a try? I hardly find it worth finding out its bad and loosing all my video in the near future.

There are no guarantees in life, but these SDHC cards have been more reliable than any tapes I ever used for DV or HDV video work. As someone else previously mentioned, I recommend setting up the camera, plugged into an AC Adapter, and just recording all the way through all of your cards one time, then formatting, before going and shooting material for any of your actual endeavors. That's what I did to test out the Transcend cards before using them for something that mattered to make sure they had no problems.

This is not a tape, you don't need a camera. If you want to verify that all cells are writable and readable then simply stick the card into a computer, write a bunch of files to it (better use less larger files than more smaller files), then read from it. Use copy /V for verification.

How much evidence do we even have that the Taiwan cards are to blame? It could have been a random bad batch for all we know. It seems we're getting quite superstitious here...

(of course, who am I to talk - I just defected to Patriot for my newest three SDHC cards...)

How do I know my 16GB Transcend is made in China or Korea or else where? On the back, there is nothing referring to the manufacturing site. Only says" 233714 1516 " on the back.

BTW, I love my Pqi and Patriot.

So... formatted and tested the 16gb transcends from Taiwan... couple weeks later (last night) BOTH OF THE CARDS WILL NOT READ IN ANY OF THE 3 CAMERAS, says CHECK CARD! It almost screwed me big time... good thing I had a little room on my other cards from an earlier shoot...

This is garbage, never going to order any more transcends... and only use my 2 from china... Thats 3 Taiwan cards purchased from 2 different retailers that FAILED.

Are the newer cards from Taiwan. My Transcends are from China but was going to order a few more.

What cards will you pick instead?

Yeah my newer orders were all Taiwan...

I am going with Delkin eFilm Pros or Panasonics... Maybe a patriot... At this point it's just not worth the risk.
