My experience with Patriot Class 10 CF and Trascend CF (Blue)

I had bought the Patriot 64gb class 10 and noticed in my 7D that it freezes my camera. So I returned the 64gb and got a new one, thinking it was a defective card. After only 11gb-20gb of footage...it froze again. So I decided after reading great reviews with the Transcend 32GB blue high speed CF card...I would give that a try. Only about half way through the card of continous footage, I get the temp gage or warning. First time I ever got that.Anyone have any suggestions on what CF card I should get now?

isn't "class 10" an SD thing? I thought CF cards were 133x, 400x, etc

plus: I use a transcend 32GB class 10 SD card on my 550D; no issues so far

SanDisk, the new Extreme Pro...

I've followed this kind of issue for several years now and while Transcend is the better performing of the bargain brands I still see enough reports of problems (most of them real serious involving data loss and/or complete card failure) to make me stay away from them.

There are a lot of folks who seem to be having a good experience with Transcend and the kind of comment I just made will draw several "I use Transcend with no problems", or "works flawlessly for me".

Patriot, A-Data, Dane-Elec, and several others I can't remember right now are disasters waiting to happen or like your Patriot card, show their problems right off. Some who have had the recording actually stop have also reported the media card felt quite "hot" to the touch when removed.

Of all the problem reports I've seen I see NONE with Hoodman RAW media, and very few with SanDisk. Canon has finally released a firmware upgrade that addresses a bunch of reports of the 7D being unable to open a video file, and video files that didn't seem to record properly in the 7D.

I never had the problem but there have been numerous threads about it and some 7D owners sent their cameras to Canon for service and still had the problem when it came back.

In my 7D I've used SanDisk Extreme IV 45MB/s and 60MB/s 8GB cards and never had a problem, in my T2i and 60D I use SanDisk Class (6) 20MB/s, 30MB/s, Class (10) 30MB/s, and now the new Extreme Pro UH 1 SDHC cards. I've never seen the "buffer bar" nor had any kind of warning.

We invest a fair amount of money in these cameras and it's my opinion the media is no place to "skimp". The real question is if you lose the video on a project important to you, how good a bargain was that bargain card?

For our photography company, The CF card brand of choice is the SanDisk Pros. We had a few Lexar, but I wouldn't trust them beyond 16Gigs.
I know the SanDisks are very pricey, but your dealing with 64Gig cards. Anything goes wrong with the card and everything can be lost.
If your switching out smaller cards, then an error isnt the end.
When your covering an Arab royal wedding and your card gets corrupt, you may have to flee the country... so be 100% with your storage!

Have ou thought about buying a bunch of 8gb or 16gb cards? If that 64gb card fails and it's full of footage you're really screwed.
