My AF101 doesn't recognize the new 1.14 firmware update

A presto
A me fa vedere solo dispositivi P2, forse perchè ho una 171 registrata. Cmq del firmware volevo l'elendo delle modifiche, non il file. Magari continuiamo in privato

ciao e grazie

Gary

PS = We apologize with all users for the italian speaking posts

Those are enlisted in the second post by shooter in this thread where you can find a link to the official page too.

Yes. Well Maybe. Are you outputting to SDI monitor? If yes, Do you have the PFS enabled? It thinks it's PFS. Anyway it's located in the AV out menu. If this is enable, It disables the VFR. Not sure why. So disable it, and it should work.

Are all of you that cant update the firmware loading the firmware file to an SD card on a Mac by chance? I couldn't get the AF100 to accept the firmware update when I transferred the update on my Mac, however it worked the first time I transferred the firmware to an SD card from a PC.

Had this same issue when upgrading my Lumix 14-140 firmware on a Mac.

Someone said it had something to do with the mac writing invisible files to the card. Any overly computer-savvy guys know a trick?

Edit: check post #2 for potential solution http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?233544-Issue-updating-14-140-on-AF100

I had this problem updating my HPX170. Mac's write hidden files onto any drive/card mounted and these files make it so the cameras can't read the card properly. The only way around it I've found was to find someone with a PC, download on the PC, put on the SD card, and update.

What's a PC?

Jan, the production business is overwhelmingly a Mac world. I've not attempted the upgrade, but if it won't work with Macs, Panasonic needs to provide a fix for this.

Please, guys and girls, please, please no Mac vs. PC rants.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

I've been saying this for years. It's not that hard to fix because I used to be able to update my HVX200 via my Mac, it was the newer HPX170 and apparently now the AF100 that has the problem.

Perhaps you can format the card and do the copy in terminal on your mac? Most invisible files written by a Mac are related to opening or viewing files through finder. Perhaps if you avoid using finder it will work. It always bothered me that Finder does this as it can often be a problem with many other IT-based recording formats. Seems a bit silly that just by looking in a folder you are forced to essentially change its contents and size.

Also perhaps if it also creates .Trashes just by mounting, maybe you can remove that in terminal as a superuser?

Also, we could try updating in either Boot Camp, or via a connection in something like Parallels. But yeah, it needs to work with Mac, natively.

Personally, I does make sense practically that Panasonic should build compatibility with copying firmware updates on a Mac given the reality of the situation, but ideally the burden should be on Apple to provide an option for users dealing with sensitive folder structures that do not want them corrupted by their OS forcing them to write invisible files to every folder it accesses. The implementation of such a feature without giving the user an option to preserve their sensitive media and folder structures is a bit ridiculous.

This is true, but the people that will stop buying a Mac because of this is very low comparatively, so I doubt it's very high on there list of things to fix. Where as Panasonic has more to loose than Apple so if Panasonic was smart they would fix it. My girlfriend has a PC so for me I can deal with the issue the 4-5 times a year I need to update a firmware.

I've never had a problem with firmware updates on my Mac with my GH1, so obviously Panasonic products can work flawlessly with Apple. I've been using Panasonic and Apple products together for over five years and never had a problem. Sound like something that could/should easily be fixed.

Yep I forgot that I've been updating my GH1(3) via my Mac.

I've also been doing both lens and camera firmware updates on several Gh1s and 14-140 lenses using Macs without having any problems.

I've had no luck trying to trash the invisible files with Houdini.

If someone knows the procedure for upgrading the software in the AF100 using a Mac, with Terminal or other means, please post it, step by step.

Frankly, this issue does not represent Panasonic's finest hour...

Good shooting and best regards,
Leo
