My 6th short is here for you.

Hi Reverand

What I like about you is that you're doing your own thing. This is refreshing. Many people post shorts up that mimic other directors work, or are just copying tried and tested styles; but as you're 16/17 you're already on the right path to finding you're own voice. At your age I was trying to make my work look like someone elses I admired, instead of wondering what it whas I had to say; so you're leaps ahead of me. It took me until my mid 20's until I tried to do my own thing.

I too would like to see a narrative from you; but as you know this doesnt mean you have to be conventional with it or linear. I dont even mean a story either; just a short that revolves around an idea.

The first short I saw of yours was your latest one and I got the impression that something along the theme of 'loss' was developing. As the short progressed I realised that it was just a collection of shots. So when I say narrative, I really mean a theme. Do your own thing but try to expand from just creating nice images to something with a purpose.

Of course, only you can decide what to do with your work. Im just offering my own bland opinion...

keep it up whatever you decide.

I'm right there with ya, Karl. Although I was close to 18 when I REALLY started doing my own thing and coming up with my own concepts, we all have to start off somewhere. We all have to borrow ideas and techniques from our favorite directors/dp's/actors/etc. at one point, otherwise we can't really gain any experience and create our own style and vision. Unless you're Reverand, and had the experience implanted in your brain. haha, just messing. anyway, it really is great to know there are younger people out there coming up with really unique and interesting things to watch. It just makes me want to push myself further and harder. :)

Dear DVXers,
It really makes me happy to hear you guys enjoy my work so much, and I REALLY look forward to getting something with narrative, a real idea, and just something that to me is what was specifically intended. Something that I'm really proud of. With every film I've made I do love them, however, I do agree it is missing the final element, and I'm working to get it there. I'm doing my best to build my portfolio so I can maybe get into NYU tisch or something for Fall 2007. You guys really keep me motivated. I apreciate your comments very, very much. Thanks, guys.
