MXF File > Into FCP

I'm sure this has been asked millions of times, I've even used the search tool to find many related topics but I'm still so confused.

I've got a bunch of MXF files that were dumped from a firestore on a external harddrive. I want to open these in FCP but can't no matter what I do, even if I try the "import p2" function. The files are greyed out

Thanks

Were all of the files, including the lastclip.txt file copied? And by all of the files, I mean every folder with every file. And which version of FCP?

Hey there

The exact folder was duplicated and everything in it. I am new to mac so I'm not too swift with it yet, but this borrowed laptop has "Final Cut Pro 5.1"

What is the folders EXACT name?

If it was done properly, then you should have a folder that has two things inside it, a CONTENTS folder and a LASTCLIP file. Inside the CONTENTS folder you should have 6 folders. The CONTENTS folder should simply be called CONTENTS...not CONTENTS #1, or CONTENTS/1...no odd characters

How exactly are the files on the hard drive?

There are a bunch of folders labelled 1- 9 with nothing in them, 3 folders with named like "20070422-185616-01" which the MXF's are in, the LASTCLIP.TXT, and a few other files. I can take a screenshot if you want me to.

The names indicate that you didn't do the "ORGANIZE P2" function before moving the files to the Mac. Move the files back to the Firestore, use the "ORGANIZE P2" function, and then move the resulting CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP.TXT file to the Mac, and they'll import fine.

You really need to read a little on both the Firestore and Final Cut Pro.

This isn't rocket science, but with all due respect, it does take a little research to understand workflow.

Hey there

The firestore was a rental, as well as the HVX. Is there anything I can do to "ORGANIZE P2" without having the actual firestore?

Thanks for the help!

Organize P2 is a function of the Firestore.

Without it, you can't do anything.

I've seen reports of people copying back the files, and then using the organize function

So there's absolutely nothing I can do without getting the firestore again and running an organize, or getting Raylight and converting the files on Windows?

I left a message at the Focus Enhancement contact tele line and e-mail. This is killing me, I got to get this stuff done.

What if I sent just the files on some webspace to someone with an FS and they did an "organize" for me? ... Any body up for the challenge? I'll send you a free joeyL editing disk and some prints...

(hey, worth a try. there is 57.4 gigs of footage though) errr... this may take too long with webspace. I'm not sure

yep, update to final cut to 5.1.4. It a new window for importing p2 wich works much better. With 5.1 i couldn't open any 720p 25pn files. Worth a try. /Joel

Don't know how new you are to mac, so this might help to speed up things=)

click on the apple at the left corner of the screen and choose upate programs. Then choose final cut, download the upate, reboot.

You have to be kidding.

57+ GBs of data for someone to both download and upload to you?

Why not rent the FS again?
