Must have lenses

For those who own "cinevized" lenses...are they worth the extra money? They look pretty, but I'm just trying to determine if the extra cost is justified.

Absolutely, 100%, unqualified yes. The de-clicked iris alone is worth the money, but the follow focus gearing is very nice as well. I also find them more functional as still lenses as well.

I bought a set of cinema primes instead of putting more money into my ZF's (which was my original plan; to Duclos-mod my existing ZF's) but ... after using Stephen's, I would say that most budget users, for whom cine lenses would be out of reach, would be very happy with the Duclos-modded ZF's. They're nice. Very nice.

I totally agree with Barry`s sentiments, Duclos modded my set of Zeiss primes ,gathered up from B&H used dept. and some bought new , de-clicked and focused ringed , and 80mm ed, all looking good, not sure what the 50 , 85, 100mm, will look like on the AF, but
just got a 2nd hand Red 18-50 .T3 and it looks pretty sweet.
except for the dust on those lens caps !

Is that the switronix battery mounted on the back there? How much power do you get powerig the camera and nano, or is it too early to know?

how much does it cost to get your nikon lenses cinevized im close to DC , are there any reputable shops around me?

one more thing...this is somewhat off topic, but i'm trying to use my nikon 24-70 f2.8 on the af100, the 24-70 does not have an aperture ring, so i cant use it at f2.8... i heard somewhere that theres a way to keep it open, i tried putting it on my d700 and opening it up all the way but as soon as i remove it, it closes again, and then i tried to use my Fn button that is set up to show me the desired aperture before shooting, i tried to hold that button down and remove the lens, that did not work either ... does any one know other ways this could be done...

As you say too early to know, also waiting for the AF battery adapter, as I used this on a 5D MK11 to power Small HD , the camera and a Tascam DR100, never had the battery needing a re-charge on set, so far,
At the moment it is powering the Nano and a small HD.

Right on, I'm thinking of getting one to power my Nano and af-100, and maybe my small HD as well. WIsh they made them a little nice looking but if it runs a good amount of time than I'm happy

You're going to want to get something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-G-AI-AIS-...ccessories&hash=item4aa116449f#ht_3059wt_1032

It'll let you manually change the aperture of your Nikon G lens on the AF100.

cine lenses were well out of reach for my budget to get started with my af100 kit, so naturally nikon was the choice. though i havent tried them on the af100 yet, 35mm adapter they were great. i have them outfitted with cinevate rings for the long travel in the focal ring like the 85 1.4, even the 105 macro can be hooked up to the durus FF with its very long focal ring travel. a set of nikons wont break the bank for a realistic lens budget and the results are comparable. until i can go up to cine style lenses, my nikons will stay. anyone interested check out ebay, all of mine were purchased form sellers there, just shop around and you will find great deals.

Okay...Let's say i'm getting a little confused now... As for now, my humble equipement is just a 5d II and GH2 with acouple of nice Leica/Zeiss contax and Canon lens... As for now, im waiting to see next year between a Epic S , a Scarlet or the new Canon ... So for now, I will like to investigate in few lens that i need to shoot one or two projects...

My first thought was go for other prime Leica or Zeiss DSLR 35mm lens as manual focusing on a the Canon lens is a nightmare... Now Epic is supposedly to be able to understand AF of these EF lens then maybe IS as well who know? Then Canon is going to come up with his new camera, so is it still a good choice?

So what you guys will pick between

- Getting more Zeiss and Leica prime DSLR 35mm lens
- Go for Canon L IS lens or zoom like the 100 IS L macro, and 14 or 24L?
- Go for a Red lens zoom
- Pick an old Cooke T3.1 20-100 or an even older Angenieux 20-120mm T2.9?

I like the idea of a zoom which allow fast and flexible shooting ... How these 2 last zooms compared to prime DSLR lens in term of optical quality and usability?

Your words are very welcome!

My words of wisdom.

Pick a cine style lens over and above any still lens if you intend to do motion picture work.

Barry, would the RP lens sets be a good starter for those of us who can't afford cinema primes? Do any of these RP lens sets "focus the right way"?

I'm looking heavily at the standard speed Nikon, High speed nikon and the zeiss ZF set.

Both the Nikons and the ZFs focus the opposite of the way that cine lenses do, but this easily remedied by using a ff that has the ability to reverse its rotation.

I love my Canon FD 85 f1.2L, very sharp, long focus travel, a real light sucker.
Worked well on my SGPro on HVX, and GH13, waiting expectantly for my AF101 to arrive.
And it looks the b*llocks too with it's huge 82mm front element, so won't be dwarfed on the AF...

I'd love to get it Cinimatised.

Ah ok. Which follow focus' reverse direction? Does the D/Focus one do it? I'm looking for a reasonable priced one.

I was thinking of it but don't you missed stabilization for it?
