Music Videos: Post them here!

Will! Hey I saw the 3 vids you've just posted. I actually like all 3 of them for the most part. I think personally, I'd like to see a few more performance pieces.

I agree with Jambredz on all the PRO's. On the CON side, I don't feel it looked underexposed for my taste.

Good work dude.

Some cool shots in that group Timur.

Heres my latest. Shot on a really restrictive budget and schedule. Had to cut a bunch of storyline shots. Good experience overall.

Quite different pacing from a lot of the hard stuff shown here. Shot on a 500.

Did a couple of others recently, but for CMT, wont preview those here. I dont think this audience will appreciate CW (bit like me really), but they are for a different market. But hey, have to be flexible right?

Nope. here's what ur looking for http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?f=57 :)

what kinda of stands and frame were u using for those silks. if u hav a link for them can u show me?

again...killer vid. gonna watch it again now :D

oh okay, well they need to make a seperate section of this forum for music videos because that's silly for them to only have one for dvxs.

I actually don't know what kind of stands we used, i left setting up the silks to my lighting techs. Thanks i'm really proud of the video! :)

Alright so this is my FIRST ever completed music video I've done for a band.

COMMENTS are welcome--the good and the bad! Help me improve! What improvements do I need?

You'll probably get more views if you post it somewhere other than Facebook... like Vimeo.

I'm assuming you shot interlaced video, as it shows throughout the video. Deinterlace before you upload.

I liked the pacing. The night shots out on the street were very well done.

The lighting and color in the parking garage just didn't do it for me. I don't like that color of gas lighting to begin with, and it wasn't pleasant to watch.

The shot in the bar with the blue glow in the background was far more pixellated/blocky than any other shot. Don't know if that was Facebook's compression, but that shot showed it worse than any other.

The rack-focus technique got old after a while. It's useful once in a while, but when the picture blurs every three seconds, it becomes tiring. Also, there were times when your going way out of focus (almost to macro range) revealed the need to clean your lens.

Thanks C2V!
With the interlacing and facebook situation, i didn't have time to de-interlace because we had a deadline and I worked up until that point! I literally shot & edited the same day it was due! But that's prob not an excuse. It actually would have my first time de-interlacing a video because I haven't tried it before. Facebook was the first place I uploaded it to because the band and I have tons of mutual friends.

Yeah to be honest, I wasn't too pleased with the garage shots as well. But a lot of people liked the shots, so I kind of just left them in there. What do you mean about the "gas lights" tho?

The bar shot was terrible! I'm not sure why I got that kind of blocky, pixelated image. Was it the way the light was set up? Do you have an idea of how to shoot it better in a similiar situation?

And I agree about the rack-focus 100% as well. What do you mean about going way out of focus tho?

Thanks again!

Consider getting into a progressive workflow. I'm assuming that you shot 60i at 4:3 and cropped for 16:9? 24pA in squeeze can yield beautiful results, though I've seen some folks around DVXUser shooting 30p for music vids. I prefer 24pA. EIther way, that will get you away from any interlacing issues.

Your other post indicates you've figured it out. Just remember that you'll hit gas lighting in most any parking lot, garage, or gymnasium, or wherever you find street lights. They sport inconsistent color, but many/most give off that sick-ish pink/orange glow.

The pixellation shouldn't have come from how it was shot. That's what baffles me. Any chance that the one clip was captured at a low resolution?

And I agree about the rack-focus 100% as well. What do you mean about going way out of focus tho?

When you pull the focus out to blur everything, you're moving into the DVX's macro focus range, so any dirt/dust/water specs on your lens or lens filters are suddenly in focus. Check the rack focus at 2:17... you'll see dust specs come into focus.
