Music video sync problem nervous breakdown

I have to say that is the first time I ever heard of someone changing the CD pitch thinking it was the volume. Wow, that could have been grisly if it was not clear who was at fault. But it turned out good!

I would have never even known to THINK of that, except I used to be a DJ a while back and remembered that damn thing... it's not even called a pitch slider anymore because it doesn't effect pitch at all, just tempo. If it effected pitch you would easily hear it.

I did check with that mix master bpm detection program and sure enough the main song is it 131 bpm and the ones on the gh1 vary from 120 to 139.

Something is not adding up here. With the track on set being that much out of sync, how would the guy that was rapping to it and probably wrote the song not know that the playback track was much faster when trying to lip sync to it? Have you met with the rapper and let him see the video to make sure that the track at the shoot was going too fast? Maybe they sent you a master track that was too slow and the one at the shoot was correct.

Is the 'sole' purpose of this sort of 'control', to allow X amount of songs to be played in Y amount of time?

I could also see it in 'pop' radio, where they want to get the songs out, but have 15 minutes of ad time to do as well... eh wala... shorter song play time, means more profitable ad time...

Or is this a feature for Karaoke, where one may want to speed up the beat, or something like that...

it's called 'beat matching'.
the sole purpose is to seamlessly mix two tracks together as one.
good djs do this so well you might not notice when one song ends and another begins.
but most djs aren't any better than a jukebox or 'shuffle' on an ipod playlist!

The artists that were rapping were so stoned that I seriously doubt they would notice. I was not familiar enough with the material to notice... and I was so focused on visuals I really wasn't paying too much attention to the playback. I at first though they had sent me a wrong track or mix than what they played but they insisted that was the track... so it was the beat matching thing... had to be... no other answer possible unless yes, they had some faster mix and they are completely lost and have no idea what they are doing and I don't think that was the case... but like bugs bunny said... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm couuuullld be.

Next time I am having the master mixed to 48k not 44.1 and having the file copied to my computer and playing from my computer.. so I will KNOW it is the same track and nothing is messing with it.

PS.... my slow mo thing did work but it is REALLY hard to do... you shoot 60p, then you speed up your song 2.5 times.... you have every dance move lip sync to the chip munk track.....

you drop the 60p back into a 1080p 59.94 timeline and play at at .4 speed in vegas.. and it syncs perfectly...

very few people have the skill to keep up with it though... but I did a test and was able to get some CRAZY effects like the beastie boys whatcha want video

blackout:
i feel your pain, but it really isn't that the dj did anything wrong. he did what djs do.

what went wrong is that for a video shoot, they shouldn't have used live djs at all. and now you can attest to this and educate the client so they don't repeat this mistake again. ;)

Yes.... client has been 'educated' and handled it all fairly well. They were so impressed with the footage that they really didn't have that much of a startle at what happened and they knew I was coming in at a very very affordable rate so they even bumped it up a little bit so I could have a slightly bigger crew and a few more assistants.. I was really skimming things and basically doing everything just me and a gaffer. No ac.. no focus pullers... I was using every GH1 trick in the book I knew to get it done on the down low with minimal crew... I told her that.

No footage yet for a bit Hom I can't really show much but the screen test right now ands I'm a very busy bee.

But hey... why not throw in a little. I can show some stills:
