Music Video "Doc" shot with XH-A1

I followed Judas Feet into the studio in May for the recording of their new album, Behind The Sunset. I didn't set out to make a music video, per se, but rather document the recording of a song.

It was difficult as the band recorded live (drums, bass, guitar and vocals all recorded at the same time). Considering I had to rely on their retakes (which were very few) to get footage, I was pretty pleased. The pump organ, cello and piano were tracked afterwards.

Anyway, here it is for your enjoyment/comments/critiques.

Hey man great video... I'm curious what preset you were using and how much of the color correction you did in post... You had some reel worthy shots in there as well... I'm really impressed at the lighting and how you were able to achieve a really nice color balance with all that light spilling through the windows... Did you color correct / gel the windows? Also what frame rate you filmed in...?

Great vid man...

Thanks for the comments.

I was using the disjecta's VIVIDRGB as a base preset. I did some basic color correcting in FCP - nothing too intense, just crushing the blacks. popping the highlights, and adjusting saturation based on my exposure.

I didn't have the time, resources, or desire to set up any lights - I had shot in the studio once before (shown at 0:10 and 1:34 in my reel in my signature), so I just used his windows as my key with his curtains as diffusion. I wanted a very documentary feel, and when doing shooting BTS/doc for music I'm not opposed to the grain of increased gain (within reason, of course). My gain ranged from -3 to +3 on this shoot.

It was framed in 24F. I thought about using my LEX, but that would have totally hindered the shooting as I would have had to go on sticks. It had been so long since I've shot with the integrated lens I was pretty nervous, but overall I'm pleased with the detail. The shots I mentioned above in my reel are of the same band in the same studio from last December, but shot with the LEX on sticks.

Thanks again for watching.

dude,

what upload settings did you use, PLEASE FILL ME IN. I'm trying to get a real HD clarity but falling short by a small margin. If you used FCP and compressor then a bit of advice would be greatly welcomed. I've already followed the vimeo guidelines but it isnt enough.

thanks

I just export to the default Apple TV preset. Then I apply the Brightness and Contrast filter and bump the contrast around 5 marks.
