Movies that evoke an emotional responce

I've been looking around for examples of movies (specifically shorts) that evoke a strong emotional responce from viewers.
I would like to get a few examples and if you're willing a quick post to let me know why it affected you. (personal reasons, the content, something similar happened to you, etc)
Just doing some research....help me out if you got a minute.

Here's one that hit me good. Most here have probably seen it.

Great films. Loved The Incident at Tower 37 and Leave Me. Leave Me made me almost choke up.

The following is a bit abstract but it gets me. The OP asked for reasons... well my dad has not led the most mainstream of lives. He's no criminal but... I'll leave it at that. And like the son in the short I am out looking to catch "perfection" and I'll get up at dawn to do it. He seeks a perfect wave and I seek a perfect shot.

I can't believe no one has linked this one yet! I remember seeing this a couple years ago, back when I was in college. I think what affected me so greatly about it was the simplicity and nuance of the story. There's only one character, no dialogue, and yet it really gets at the heart of what it means to live life, what it means to achieve, and what it means to dream. And it does so with such a limited scope...it's not some grand epic story about a warrior who fights with honor to protect the ones he loves, or to protect his country. It's nothing like that at all. It's...much more realistic in a way.

Good flick!

Any more? Anyone?

It's not a short, but one of the hardest times I've had not crying in a theater (bite tongue, grimace, etc) was the climax of "Man on Wire", when Pettit finally tightropes across the WTC towers. There's only like 5 photos of the event, which they intercut with people's memories of that morning. Everyone in the theater had tears streaming it seemed. Even the trailer gets me to this day. And it's a freaking documentary.

Mine is not a short as well, but the opening battle sequence of "Saving Private Ryan" and then the knife fight scene are some of the most emotion evoking scenes I can really point to. Both are visceral and amazingly done.

But keep in mind, one person's "emotional" is another person's "ho hum". It's all based on that person's life experiences and how they can relate to what is being shown.

That's what I was hoping to get a better handle on and find out. What is emotional to other people. I know what is to me but I was wanting to see what others find emotionally stirring.

Ahhhh. For me, what yanks my cord.........sacrifice. Giving of yourself for something other than yourself.
