Hey someone else who saw door to door! He was excellent in that! I was hurting for him, having to act that way the whole movie...I missed the ending though... :-[[/quote]
Oh man. The ending was one of those 'choky throaty thingys' that dudes get.
Macy's character ends up receiving salesman of the year (after going through all of the BS). The older woman ends up dying and when they inventory her apartment, all of the products she bought from him are hidden away (showing that she was really just lonely).
I disagree on Harrison Ford being overrated. I think he was brilliant in Mosquito Coast and I think he's underutilized.
He's a really fine actor but the public is used to seeing him in heroic roles. Didn't anyone see his most recent role as busdriver? WHHAATUUP BEAAAATCH! 8)
I love Harrison; Han Solo, Indy, Deckard, Ryan. He is the man. Although he needs to something cool quick. His last bit of films have sucked (and this comes from a huge fan)
Did these films come about when Calista entered the picture?
Water to Wine (Jethro the Bus Driver)
Hollywood Homicide
K-19: The Widowmaker
What Lies Beneath (I liked this but it was not EPIC)
Random Hearts
Six Days Seven Nights
Don't laugh, but I think Jim Carrey is totally underrated as dramatic actor.
and again, don't shoot me.
Scarface was GREAT, but I think Pacino is overrated now.
Julia Roberts is overrated.
Will Smith is Overrated.
William H. Macy is underrated.
I'm underrated.
The whole cast of Star Trek The Next Generation is way UNDERRATED.
I knew I should have stayed away from this forum..
I'm baffled how anyone can call someone like Michael Caine or Dustin Hoffman underrated. They are icons in the acting world. Underused Nowadays, or even under appreciated? Perhaps. Underrated? Hardly.
I also have to say that there is a difference between not liking someone, and not respecting their acting abilities (I hate Glenn COlse, but she's a great actress. I tried to hate Tom Cruise for years, but he's got the chops, I like Bruce Campbell, but he's hardly a great actor.)
That being said, my two nods in the underrated category are John Cusack, and Tom Selleck. Both do comedy and drama equally well, taking on challenging roles. Neither seems concerned with celebrity, but focuses on their craft.
I'd say Vin Diesel was overrated as an actor, but to do that I'd have to have heard someone say something positive about his acting. WHich I haven't.
I too have stayed well away from this thread so I don't get bogged down in an argument, but:
Clive Owen - brilliant superb actor, everyone wanted him to be the next James Bond, but he turned it down because he felt it would limit him.
Michael Caine - I'm gonna get linched for saying this but... I think he's a bit, dare I say it... wooden. I find his early stuff sounds like he's reading out-loud at nursery school.
Sorry, I know, I know, I'm wrong and you're all right. Just my 2 cents worth...
Michael Kane has a book on acting and in it he has this theory about not blinking during a take since he feels that he'll lose the attention of the audience. He also does it to make his characters seem more intense.
I think it's kind of funny and everytime I see a Michael Kane movie that's all I can think about. Unfortunately an actor in a short of mine was reading Kane's book and the actor ended up giving a wooden performance. Afterwards he mentioned Kane's book and not blinking.

Michael Gambon, Chris Cooper, Jeffrey Wright, and although he is famous and all, Daniel Day Lewis is the absolute best. You could never overestimate his skills. He always delivers.
Newman was frequently overlooked when it came to winning awards like oscars. Winning for The Color Of Money just drew attention to the fact that this guy has been one of the greatest actors ever, yet never really got the full appreciation in his prime. It didn't help that he came up at around same time as Brando.
I actually prefer Newman to Brando on the whole, as Newman was consistently great throughout his career. He didn't have an old, crazy, lazy phase...instead he just seemed to grow better with age.
