More On Sony S-Log Offer and Rebates

My local Sony rep here in Toronto just confirmed this will not be offered in Canada. He thinks it is only being offered in USA because A.) their fiscal year end is March, B.) USA had too much stock of SLOG upgrade so deal was being sold way below cost to push inventory.

Regardless, there will be no SLOG for $899 in my future, he also said F3 must have been purchased in USA.

I don't agree Sony is "greedy" corporation. They exist to make money and if they did not exist we would not be sitting here talking about their cameras.

i guess F3 is a great cam f*cked up by a greedy corporation.

Alright seriously, dont even go there.

The F3 is a miracle of technology. Be happy it even exists, and that you have the privilege of being born in a time where the average film/video business owner can purchase one. Sony USA figured out how to lower the price on their Slog Upgrade. Good for them. They figured out how to do it and still make money. Sony owes you ZIP. Nothing, not a damn thing. Neither does Panasonic, RED, JVC, Canon or Ikegami.

Goose with golden egg. I dont think its the Company thats getting greedy here folks. This attitutde (not directed at DCloud) of "they should be giving away their products for what "I" think is a fair price" is non sense. If these companies didint make healthy profits, there would be no F3, FS100, NX5, GH1, GH2, 5D, 7D, 60D, RED-ONE, Scarlet X, Epic X, Af100, C300, Alexa, F65, or F35. Then how much fun would it be to try to make a short independent film on $1500 per 10 min 35mm Film. Anyone here know how to use a steinback?

so here is an interesting situation. I filled out the forms. got an email saying my camera is ready to be sent in. but then I got a call from a client booking me for 20 days with the F3. does the fact that I got the email mean I have a "reserved" upgrade, or if I don't send it to them in time, will I lose the chance to get it upgraded? I have been trying to get an answer from them. I would love to just pay them now, so I KNOW its reserved, but they seem hesitant to answer my emails. and the people who answer the phones have been no help at all.

This is a fair point of view Timur, but in my personal opinion, just because they produce high-end cameras it doesn't mean that they will put their high-end customers into this position. I don't own s-log at the moment and the price of it was the only reason for this. Now it's great news for me but it's still not clear what will happen to those who payed thousands of dollars just before the announcement. I am very happy with my f3 and it keeps paying itself everyday. All i'm trying to say is; this is a marketing failure, a company like Sony should have plan this way before and act accordingly, this company ain't a Red company which we used to their lovely marketing strategy:)

Agree totally, I have often said to my wife/sound person that I was sorry that all this new great technology was coming now! Half my career almost 20 years was spent with betacam technology, before that 3/4" inch and before that film. Sony or Ikegami (HL Handi-Lookie) would sell you a camera or deck and that was it, there where no upgrades. The cost of an Ikegami HL 79DAL in 1980 was around 30K and you had to spend another 15-20K for two Sony decks, one for the field usually a Sony BVU-50 and one for playback Sony BVU-110. And yes I have in the past used a Steenbeck but mostly edited film with a reel to reel, Moviola film viewer and a hot-splicer. (BTW I'm not ancient I just started my career early in life. :}

I was one of the first people to pay $3679 for sLog. Believe me. I know how it feels.

That said, I made my money on it. So its no big deal. I got great camera turbocharged into a stellar one.

Will get the graphic up shortly. Rushing to Apple Store since I left my MBPro charger somewhere in NYC yesterday and i'm running out of juice

Went to Teaneck for S-log update today. Was there only 45 minutes. Quick and easy, but they did confirm program is on hold...

I got an email from Teaneck yesterday saying their stocks have been depleted however they said that the where working towards extend the program and to please standby for further information in the next two weeks. Ned's posting of Sony's latest rebates is amazing, I'll be interested to see if Canon counters now.

i agree with you on earning money from your products. of course when i see sony, i also see overpriced products. its all over their products.

heres a question...
why have slog a separate addon at all? people wouldve paid for a higher f3 price with s-log built on.
why is that price drop on the S-Log more than 50%?
I dont mind paying premium price for equipments i have. I dont mind that i paid for 4800 on an AF100 when its down 3900 now.

i dont hate sony nor care about it, i just see this situation as focked up. price the upgrade so high then suddenly its dropped so low.

The reason why S-Log was offered separately was so people who didn't need it could buy the camera for less. Also, it's worth noting the camera shipped before S-Log option was available - it may have meant being able to release the camera to market faster to exclude SLog.

But why drop the price? To move more units. And to compete with Canon, who's offering C-Log on the base models of the C300.

The only reason we have any of these innovative products is because Sony, Red, Canon, and Panasonic are competing with one another for the money in our pockets.

here in austria i can't get that offer..,(yet i hope) i wanted to order right away, but i can only get the sxs version at the normal pricing... so i have to wait and see... bummer
