More On Sony S-Log Offer and Rebates

There seems to be so much confusion about the S-Log $899 promotion and rebates that I was able to obtain from Sony a matrix explaining all of the various promotions, which by the way, end on March 31, 2012.

Product position changes; markets change. I bought my F3 right after the summer 2011 price increase. I wasn't happy and begged and cajoled that since I saw it first (I was present at pre-roll out event) I should get the original price. It didn't happen.

I am attaching the complete matrix of all rebates and offers. Note that some of these are stackable such as the loyalty discounts. Also, to correct something that was in another thread, the SR-1 recorder is $12,200 with 2 cards; not $17,000 as stated in the post. Important as well to note is that current F3 rebates on body only/kit as well as external recording devices still apply until 3/31/

The S-Log update requires proof of purchase and serial number to be sent to Sony. Then service will schedule the upgrade. I was told that as a priority program, Sony will turn the upgrade around quickly. The serial number of camera will be registered as having S-Log in the event any board replacements need be done. And the upgrade cannot be removed as you would uninstall the SxS version back to its card. It is just hard-encoded into the camera.

I'm not working for Sony nor am I an apologist for any company. I just want to help clarify things and at the same time to share a few feelings on the nature of changing markets. I am personally so impressed with how S-Log makes this a totally different camera that I really do hope F3 owners can take advantage of the offer.

Finally, note that this is a Sony USA offer.

Hi!
But do you know why Sony only have this offer in the USA?
The camera it self cost a lot less in the USA than in Europe. I don´t understand this policy...

All I can suggest, Roger, is that the various Sony business units operate quasi-independently. So you residents of Canada, the EU and elsewhere-- ask your local Sony division to match the US offer.

So, if I understand the Promotion Qualifier pdf that nsoltz posted, you must be a current owner of the PMW-F3L/K to get the S-log option for $899.00. In other words, I can't buy an F3 tomorrow, and also get S-log for $899.00. Am I reading the chart correctly?

I just did some poking of my sources. The response was "stay tuned" so I would hold off until Sony makes some kind of announcement.

I haven't been able to find the actual $2500 rebate (i.e. required form and requirements) offer on any of the Sony sites. Is it too early?
Furthermore, the $1200 dollar loyalty rebate requires the ORIGINAL UPC code from, for example, the 14x lens box. Are both rebate requests to be sent to the same local, since I suspect
that the $2500 rebate will also require the UPC of which there will be only 1?

I was told from my Sony rep in Canada, that this is a "US offer", but he is looking into, for what thats worth.

Does anyone know if the F3 has to a US-model? If necessary I can use my mail forwarder in the US to handle the whole process (from Australia)

I'm saying hold off buying a US F3 for a day or two until Sony sorts out what they will do vis a vis new buyers.

I'm also interested if there are some restrictions where the camera has been bought from? Even though I have my fingers crossed that this deal extends to the other parts of world too.

I called Teaneck yesterday morning and they said to email with your details and they will contact you for follow up. That's all I know. George
