I am looking to buy a monitor for my Canon T2i. Will an Apple iPad work for this? I am a huge Apple fan & read that it might work on the DSLRs. Does the T2i Apply? or any suggestions what to get?

nope, ipad won't work. if you're on a budget, get lilliput - it's awesome for the price (around $200). if money's not a problem, definitely marshall or small HD.

p.s. there's already a lot of info about this...search

thats true - once you start recording, the output is down converted to 480p i believe.

Well why? that doesnt make sense at all to have an HD camera & not out put to HD. Canon is stupid for that.

its so dumb. I just bought a T2i & what is the point to getting a external monitor when it downgrades to SD... you would only be able to use it as focusing purposes & cant enjoy it!

For the price you paid it is already well stuffed with great features ;) Canon is not stupid, it is just that what you ask would requires more HW and higher cost. It's a photo camera after all .... it is not meant to be the best video camera. We are just lucky to be able to use as such ;)
Why a photographer would need HD video outputwhile recording ?

I am a videographer not a photographer I bought the T2i because its supposed to be the new age of video. I think canon needs to rethink that over. Just like Panasonic they have great video cameras but they have things at a higher cost because they know people need a p2 card so there gonna overcharge people to buy the p2 card. I think Canon needs to have the output to HD because they know that people are going to need an HD monitor if it camera shoots in HD. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Sorry but I remember the days of sd video assist and I was sooooooooo happy to have that! Listen Canon has a VDSLR that does do 1080 out during recording it's called the 7D. You can't fault a company or call them "stupid" for trying to get you to buy their higher costing product can you?

I am just saying dude... that it would be great for the t2i to have this feature. Why would canon hand down the video quality & not the output to HD. doesnt make sense to me. I understand the photo features are different but video come on now its like the same exact thing to me except that feature it missing.

It's a simple numbers game, I'm sure it costs more for them to have 1080 out live or they just want you to have to buy the next model up. Even the 5D doesn't do 1080 during recording and a panasonic GH1 doesn't do any external monitoring during recording at all.

so the 7D is the only one that does output HD recording? I just don't understand... there has to be some type of firmware update soon to come for the cameras that don't have that feature. I mean I love the T2i. I am making music videos with my T2i not multi-million movie productions.

Yes the 7D is the only one that when you are recording does 1080. It might not be a firmware alteration that can be made, it might be a hardware thing.

It's an $800 camera body. You should jump for joy at all the wonderful things it DOES do for that price.

Upgrade to the 7D if you want the next level.

Just be glad it has some sort of external output - it beats using yourself as the counterweight on a crane.

You can focus like a champ with a magnified viewfinder - which will be one of the first things you buy the minute you leave the studio for a bright daylight shoot.

I have no trouble using my monitor in sd to find framing and focus, I'd just like to have the hdmi out for client monitoring so that they have the wow factor when watching during the shoot.
