"MODEL / PHOTOGRAPHER" - an ELOQUENT GRAFFITI prelude – a film by SABI

Zak, nice little movie.

You certainly have a "style" of making films that is very pleasant. It was a surprise to me that only 2 actors played the film. I really like J. T. W.

The story is simple, it´s very clear what´s going on, acting is good and the camera work is very nice. If I had an observation, I would just say as a photographer that he didn´t have light enough to shoot her like that. What if he was shooting her in a beautiful dusk sky?...

I hope you do very well with this short, I wish u best.

I liked it. Deffinately has style. I love how you decided to make Eloquent Graffiti a feature. Badass. At first my one criticism was also that the photographer wasn't very photographer like, however I realized that maybe he was going for a silhouetted dusk shot, or maybe he wasn't a photographer REALLY, but clearly had another reason for being there.

Liked it alot.

Well, 500 posts in, I am sure I can't add anything that hasn't been covered. Very nice movie, just beautiful, and felt so real, I look forward to seeing what it's a prelude to...

let me tell you, having over 80+ different dvxusers leave a review, comment or give feedback since viewing opened has been an extraordinary gift. and completely unexpected. thanks to everyone who generously offered their thoughts on this film. you make this community what it is.

Well Zak...I fought the urge to skip forward to certain films at the beginning of the fest, yours being one of them. I've made myself watch by order of upload so I've just gotten to yours. I'm sure anything that I say about the film will echo previous posts but it was an amazing film.

The feeling of an intimate dream that the beautiful imagery evokes is awesome. Mix that with the film's personally familiar (unfortunately) feeling of unrequited or lost love, whatever the case may be, and you have a powerful piece. The performances of both of your stars is so true that the emotions they create around the minimalist dialogue speaks volumes. Lighting, color, sound...all of it was impeccable.

I'm sure I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know. It's always good to see your work and I'm always looking forward to seeing more. Great job man.

thanks champloo. i appreciate every word of it. its great to hear exactly what your own unique response to the film was.

I have a question Zak. How far are you into the Eloquent Graffiti feature? Is it finished? Are you still shooting? Or are you in post production?

Ryan Jackson

I haven't made up my mind about this one. But:

1) Gorgeous camera work.

2) Great acting - they're so believable, they say so much without actually speaking.

Still don't know what to thing.

More great work, Zak. I see a few different levels there. At first it seemed to be an old boyfriend trying to reconnect with his ex. Then it seemed to be a john falling in love with his working girl. Finally, it appears to be a man trying to reach out to his soul - but unsuccessfully.

You are an inspiration.

Paul

I really liked this one. The camera work was beautiful, I loved all of the light reflection in his lens. There was so much energy between the two of them that very few words were needed. This film had a clear sense of what it was doing, but still left a few things up to the viewer. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. Great job!

i loved the atmosphere zak, the rooftop setting was great. really nice job how you captured the model turning her head away.

i've watched your film several times and i'm still debating something in my head.. is the photographer supposed to come off as weird and creepy? because that was my impression of him, but i wasn't sure if that was your intent. i would love to hear your thoughts.

I've actually shown this film to several different people and have gotten similar reactions as "ugafan" To me it was obvious that the model and photographer had a history together, possibly that they were lovers and while he wasn't done with the relationship she was. After seeing that more than a few people have had similar reactions I too am curious now.

whatever you interpret it to be, is correct. to a degree, these characters are blank slates for the audience to project onto. this is a guy who wants nothing less than to be with the one person that hurt him the most. for viewers that understand that, that have experienced that, it resonates deeply. perhaps, those that haven't, don't relate to it and can only categorize it as "weird" b/c it's absolutely foreign to them. and that's totally valid as a response. personally, I would use the words "anxious and desperate". we've all been there. and if you haven't, you eventually will be.

that is also the gist of what i took from the film. i was wondering if there was another layer where he may have some psychological issues going on because his behaviors didn't seem natural to me. knowing this was part of a larger film, i wasn't sure if we were watching a section where we see his mental state deteriorate.
