C300: mkii color out of wack

Nothing should be below 23.5 in Canon Log 2 as per Canon's spec. If anything falls below that, there is some improper scaling going on. Your best bet is to just shoot a black capped off shot in various formats. Check that against Premiere and DaVinci. In Premiere the levels will fall lower, at least on the YCC footage. It might treat all RGB footage as full range properly.

Testing in Resolve 14 shows that this is a bug in Premiere Pro 12.0.1 (Build 69. Latest as of this post) and earlier. PP CC incorrectly scales gamma (treats as video levels vs. data levels) for C300 II 4K 10-bit 422 XFAVC clips (possibly more; done with testing this bug).

Again, as a result of these tests I'm finding that I prefer custom-tuned color over the ARRI settings (+ custom settings better match my DSLR picture styles optimized for skin tones). Interesting: I just tested the new custom settings with Canon Log 2 as gamma and the stock PP CC Alexa 709EE LUT looks incredible (not using the other ARRI settings!). Lots more testing being done: inside/outside, direct sun/shade, low/high CRI light, different color temps, mixed lighting, etc. This is good news as radically switching gamma doesn't mess up the custom color/settings. Kinda like training a neural network to generalize a solution ;). Will post results when done.
