Mixing 720p and 720pN footage on finalcut timeline?

I have tried to search this topic effectively, yet have not succeeded as of yet.

Will I run into danger mixing both footage captured on P2 card at 720pN, and footage captured on fs-100 at 720p?

Thanks!:bath:

If you're using FCP, you'll probably have to run the Frame Rate Converter tool before you can use them effectively.

Did you capture the equivalent of 720/24pN with v. 4 of the FS100?

If so, the footage is identical.

And I am assuming that the frames rates were identical?

I believe so.

For the FS-100, I have shot with the camera set to "720p", and the FS-100 drive at "P2 PN" setting.

And with the P2, i shoot with the camera set to "720pN"

Seemingly, the footage blends on the timeline.... Occasionaly, when I playback some footage on the timeline, I get a drop frame error message...but if I close the project, and re-open it, and try the same sequence, it plays error free. I believe it has something to do with the lack of computer speed/memory..it seems to happen often, if not always, when I have the Log and Transfer window open.

Anyways, I am worried that at some point I will have a problem, so this is why I am asking so much questions.

From your description everything was shot at 720pn. While the camera was set to 720p the Firestore was set to pn making the resulting video pn. That will match perfectly with the video shot to cards set to pn.

The computer problems definitely sound like a hard drive issue. How full are your drives? Is your video stored on a separate drive from your operating system? If not, it should be. Your computer has to work too hard to keep up if everything is on the same drive.

Yes it is. Well, actually the footage is copied to external HD's...but as of right now I have only one internal HD, so I've been saving the project, and the logged footage, on the same Hd that contains the OS.

IF I copy my entire project file/folder from where it is now to a new HD, should everything else come along intact?

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Is your entire project saved in a single folder on your hard drive? That means all of you media, your render files, etc. If they are it should transfer without any problems. Just be sure to reset your system setting drive designations when you reopen the project from the external hard drive. Redirect everything to the external drive.

Related question here...
I don't get it, I'm shooting exactly the same thing (PN setting on camera with cards, P setting on camera and PN on Firestore when using FS). My FS footage needs a 'half render' to playback normally (the video track is orange in the render indication line, plays back fine but not smoothly until rendered). What's the deal. I'm recording onto FS in P2 mode, importing as P2, etc. Anyone?
