C300: Mirrorless suggestions?

I'm doing a shoot next week on my C300MKIII and the client also needs me to shoot some still photos of each person in the interview chair for publicity (aka the easiest photo shoot in the world), but since I don't own a stills camera I have to rent one, so basically my client is paying for me to kick the tires on a possible future B-Cam purchase.

I've been thinking the C70 would make a perfect B-CAM/Gimbal Cam, but since I have to rent a photo cam, might as well take one for a spin and see if that could work as well.

Any suggestions on what I should rent?

Most obvious choice would be R5, R6 or 5D Mark IV (with C-Log if a little video will be done).

[1DX Mark II/III could work too but are more expensive. No C-Log on II.]

With that said, almost any of Canon's DSLRs are usually more than good enough just for stills including ones from 10 years ago (5D Mark II).

With the EF glass, 5Ds. It won't be a test run for anything though. Strictly, a stills cam.

And not mirrorless either (neither is 5DMKIV).

I think the autofocus system has gotten way better on the mirrorless cameras. If I were interested in something that could handle stills, I would go RF. You dont need great AF for this shoot but you may in the future. So, I'd go R5. Clermond and Liam Hall seem to enjoy it in pixel-binned 4K overheat-free mode whereas I think the R6 has worse overheating problems

Sorry I should have clarified in my original post - I'm not concerned about the camera as a photo camera..... the production would fine with anything besides an iPhone, so I'm not worried about specs or features for stills at all.

I'm interested in checking out which camera would be the best to consider for video use along side my C300MKIII (basically production is paying for a week rental for photo purposes, but I want to pick the camera that would be the best fit for future video uses so I can test it out for a week on their dime).

If you can work around overheating, the suggestions above don't change.

If you can't, the 1DX Mark III is the only other worthy option (for both uses).

I've just decided to start packing my EOS-R along with my incoming C70 for this very reason. I have never marketed myself as a still photographer but it seems to be an emerging trend in terms of client requests: "Could you snap some stills too?" And then if they really, really want a second video angle of something, I can shoot it on the R and match in post. It's an easy enough way to go above and beyond without spending R5/R6 money to do it.

So you have an S35 chip and deep flange video camera?

So the choice of Bcam.. no mirror = put your eye into the EVF in the sun. I think this is essential. So a no mirror camera.

That means R mount or M mount.

So for £50 you can get an M mount camera, with S35 coverage so your lenses port straight across.. but there is no Eos->M adapter with built in ND.

So that leaves you with R mount and the behind the lens adapter. But no S35 cameras. Great you have a ND behind the lens. A hole to look in on a sunny day. Two critical things. But some of your S35 only lenses wont fit.

So in my run up to buying a Fullframe Rmount+ND camera I just bought a 24-70/f4 zoom.. which will cover FF and mainly live on my FF b cam. My 17-85 will not cover FF (in fact struggles covering S35!).

I have now in my fast growing barigain bucket Canon collection..
C200 only 10-22 17-85
covers FF or S35..
24-70 70-200

So which Rmount DSLR? Well thats basically a function of pocket depth I think. Im gonna be buying an RP.

RP-cheap
R- less cheap matbe not much better
R5 better costy
Future even better and more costy

Im hoping that the RP, behind the lens ND and 24-70f4 will become my 'walk about' camera or vlog or have with me. And do occasional Bcam work.
AFAIK 1080 is good enough for this. Clearly the R5 would probably be better and does 4k.

My feeling is that the 24-70f4 will take more of a battering of being on the car floor or falling off the passenger seat than the 24-105. The 24-105 is more flimsy when zoomed out.

(in your recent world it could be the camera that you take to have a blood test)
