Mirror Flare Problem

I have a 4x4 Classic Soft 1 filter that is giving me lots of mirror flares, now I know it happens but is there some techniques to minimize this from happening. Lots of people use filters like this in similar situations and don't seem to have this problem as bad. Any suggestions?

The stills aren't as distracting because the flare isn't bouncing around like Casper on coke.

If it's a home made setup then try making flags to put around your filter. It'll keep stray light from the sides and top from hitting the filter. Use matte black material or spray your flags matte black if you can. Gloss will obviously reflect light and may either make your problem worse or not help at all.

I'm having the same problem using just an uv filter. Both the one from Canon and a Hoya give me this issue. It's not a matter of using a matebox or flags, if you have a bright lightsource in frame (computer screen, bulb, flashlight, etc.), you always get bouncing Casper.

I would shoot without the UV when required, but there's two issues:

1. Sometimes the flare might not be big enough to notice.
2. I would like to keep the filter on, specially when I rent the camera and it ends up with finger prints on the filter like yesterday.

I was thinking about maybe using a slim uv filter. Anyone knows if this works? I can't think of anything else.
