Milky hazy picture from T2i.

I'm getting a kind of milky, hazy, soft edged image from my t2i sometimes. You can really notice it when using focus assist. It almost looked like what it would be if the lens had slightly fogged up. I've had a play with picture styles but that didn't seem to help. I was on neutral for most of the day. Any ideas?

Are you shooting wide open? It's within the lens, and something i noticed on mine when I shot with an adapted Canon FD lens

Yep, wide open on old Nikon primes. I thought it might be a lens thing. Should I not be shooting wide open? I thought this was always a good idea for max DOF?

It is for max dof, but lenses do not perform their best wide open. Usually the lenses sharpest point is three or so stops down. Thats why faster lenses are nicer to have because three stops down on a 1.4 is still faster than three stops down on a 1.8. You will still get really shallow depth of field, but just enough so that your edges don't feather.
