C200: micron stops with Lexar

Yeah. Just ordered 1.5 Terabyte of Lexar Compact Flash Cards, about a week before the announcement.

I'd return them if you can just because now the lifetime warranty is in question.

I own several Lexar Coast cards and so I reached out and they said that at the moment, they intend to continue supporting current customers, but they also admitted that they don't know what the future holds.

Micron is making buckets of money with FLASH and it represents 31% of their business. Their financial reports show the company to be in a very good situation, but the reports don't break out Lexar in any financial report I found. So it's difficult to tell if Lexar is a business that is attractive enough to be picked up by someone else.

I don't think the Micron fabs are going to be left unoccupied but CFast 2.0 will be shortly replaced by a better specc'ed CFExpress, which is QXD form (identical in shape, size).

The Lexar brand is Micron's retail division anyway, so it looks like it represents too much trouble for too little return on the investment. The company said nothing about their manufacturing plans.

Yes, that's most likely the situation. They have a healthy FLASH business and it won't go away. The question is - is Lexar just a brand name with no individual manufacturing assets associated with it (my guess is yes)? If it has no assets to sell, it's gone as there is nothing to buy but a name. I don't think the other consumer vendors need another name to compete in that market.

Would you rather sell your CFast 2.0 under EgoDisk, as an example, or Lexar name?

Let's ask the owners/manufacturers of such TV sets as Sharp, Philips, Zenith, RCA, Sylvania and Westinghouse.

PS. Curtis Mathis must feel horribly disappointed.
