Matt Sconce- Stricken

Well, off I go to get ready for the shoot. We will see how it goes. Here are the main things I am thinking about. Remember to add transitional movements, Light well, make sure focus with the adapter is perfect, remember framing, remember to add dead time at the start of a take for sound editing, remember to take breaks for crew, make sure coverage is obtained.

Good luck!!! Have a great shoot man!

Well I just got home. It is 5:00 am and I am soooo tired, but I am happy. I will stay up and load the footage into the computer. The shoot at the restaurant went well. I will post more later when all brain cells are functioning properly.

Update: It is now 20 minutes later, I have seen some of the footage as it is loading and I have nearly passed out from the sheer awesomeness of it! I love It! More later...

Lookin' good man!
Hope that 1st one is a rack - sweet.

Might darken that blood a tad in post ... know how to do selective color correction so you just effect that par? if you ar in FCP I can tell you.

But these look real nice. Don't let the suggestion about the blood stand out.

Will we see schlomo in the last shot?

Because the CC filters I throw onto these things, I realized, I needed the blood brighter than real blood, so it looks good darkened. If I do not ened up CCing that direction, does anyone know how to do it in Premiere pro? Is it a Garbage matte, and a Replacement color technique? I might have that be slowmo, but I filmed it in 24p with a normal shutter speed of 50. I want it to be shocking and startle the viewer.

The first one is definitely a rack rocus. She comes into focus as she walks a sep toward the table.

The third shot is also a rack focus, as she points up to where she thinks the knife just was.

Thanks for the comments Jack. I am really happy with the way things are turning out. The M2 is a great tool.

Dude! Those shots look HOT! Nice, Nice, Nice work!

Thanks Brandon, I think they are some of the best work I have ever done, so I hope it continues till Tuesday night! We wrap shooting Late Tuesday, Early Wednesday and the Tuesday shots require outside raining shots, so we will see how that goes. Here are some more grabs.

UPDATE:

Poster changed to a new style on first page. Grabs added there as well.

Well, I am off to the next shoot at a counselors office an hour North. We will see how it goes!

Yeah good call, especially if things are going bluer like some of the CC you showed ... I did the same thing in Bone Hand.

...
In FCP in your color corrector filter, you toggle on "limit effect" then use a dropper to select the color you want to alter, and it has a line choker and softness control for the edges, so then you can CC for that color only. Why am I telling you this since you are on Premiere ... because I thought some of the tools might be simillar and you might figure it out with some of the crossover vocabulary ... in FCP at least, no garbage matte required, it will do all of the motion work tracking the color for you based on the dropper choice and how you adjust it.

Lookin good.

Vast improvement, by the look of the stills, over Nine To Five Ninja.

And your location kicks ass. Way to go, Matt.

Thanks! Nine to Five Ninja was my first attempt at the DVX and film making in general. I learned a lot from it and am always trying to improve. I think This film will be light years ahead of my first. That location was SUCH a hassle but I am glad it all worked out, because it rocks!

Thanks Jack! That does help. I am going to mess around and find that tool for Premiere Pro 2!

nice bro... love the framing on those shots. the blood looks tasty.

I am really working on composition this time around, so i appreciate the encouragement. I thought the blood looked tasty too, so I took a big lick and .....BLECH!!! I guess I had way too much corn syrup and not enough chocolate. No more tasting for me... :(

Let's see some more stills from tonight dude!

I am on location until Tomoroow, and will have all the footage loaded into my trusty comp on Monday. I should have some good stuff for you by then as the gruesome, freaky scenes happen tonight. Tuesday will be cool because we will create rain and see how it goes. The shoot last night went well. It was definitely acting intensive, as the scene takes place in a small white room and is dialogue. It was easier in some ways to shoot than the restaurant, yet harder as well because of the small white room vs. a large cool restaurant. Tonight we will be in a little house with a long hallway and bathroom with a tub that has tile up the wall.....perfect for blood slinging..... I have almost all the actors showing up tonight. i will keep you updated.

Here's the easiest and cheapest way to get great blood IMHO.

1) Buy a bunch of bottles of Strawberry Syrup like Nestle's Quick or preferably and off Brand
2) Buy a bunch of bottles of Chocolate Syrup.
3) have a mixing bowl or bucket on set
4) Mix the blood on camera for the appropriate brown to red ratio.
Who woulda thunk it? I tested this today and it came out great! Takes a little practice to get the Strawberry/Chocolate ratio just right but it works. Cleanup's not too bad either. Not sure yet, but it doesn't look like it stains. And if you need blood in the mouth, the stuff tastes good, too. Great call, Jack.
