For Exhibition Only

UPDATE: 8/25/06

We have finished shooting and I have cut the first rough edit. It is very scary and contains the emotions I hoped it would. Below are some grabs and behind the scenes pictures. More are spread out throughout the thread. I hope to have a lockdown cut in two days to send to leo gardini for composition.

Noise Removal Tutorial:

Step one, Export from Premiere Pro 2.0 in Uncompressed Filmstrip format for After Effects. Step two. Import into After Effects. Drop into a 23.976 composition. Set the composition several frames beyond what your clip length is. Apply Remove Grain. Change the viewing mode to final output, instead of preview. Fiddle with the Noise reduction slider under the noise reduction settings. Try to get a mix between the most detail and the smooth picture. If there is a ton of noise in the background that just seems to not go away, bring the slider down to about .2 and then enable temporal filtering. Set it to 100% and bring motion sensitivity to .9. Observe the results and then play with the noise reduction slider again until you achieve the look you want. It will make much more minor of a difference when temporal filtering is one, but it does help.

Output as an Uncompressed Quicktime or AVI format. NOT as a filmstrip again. For some reason if you export as an uncompressed filmstrip, it stretches the clip and makes it stuttery.

I hope this little tutorial helped!

I am getting the headshots for potential actors this Saturday. It looks like casting will take place July 5th-9th. We'll see who shows up. I am hoping to have a ton of people to choose from. Fresno does not have a lot of film opportunities so it is possible I will have a large turnout. I will keep you posted as I keep going.

:) I am excited that Leo Gardini has signed on to score Stricken. He was absolutely amazing in scoring Larry's Leap of Faith! I am now trying to lock down a restaurant location. I priced production insurance and it would be 1,700 for 8 day coverage (1 million liability, and 100,000 equipment coverage). Wow...definitely can't do that! Hopefully Orbitz, a privately owned restaurant here in Fresno, will let me shoot for advertising exchange and publicity. I'll write soon. -Matt

I just want to invite any of you DVXusers in the Fresno, Clovis, or Madera, California area to get involved with this project. I think it would be fun to work together and actually meet face to face. :)

That's a lot for production insurance. You can probably hunt around and find much better than that...

I got a weekend of production insurance, including equipment (1 mil policy + HVX + 35mm adapter etc ) for 300.00.

Good luck on your project.

Hey that is pretty good. Was it from the L.A. Area? Thanks for the tip.

I just posted my final poster up top. I tried to bring the reflection in the right eye slightly brighter so people would notice and lean in for a closer look.

Yeah, I got the quote in Los Angeles area. Have to find the information to the guy, again.

I was in an Irish Pub with my wife two nights ago, when she introduced me to the girl behind the bar. The girl was acting in the play Ohklahoma, with my wife, and is a very talented actor. I took one look at the girl, and saw my lead role staring back at me. It looks like she is interested and she will get back to me soon, as she is reading the script today. It is very exciting if she agrees to do this! I'll keep you posted.

I was worried about a scene in Stricken where we need to be in a restaurant. I know we cannot afford production insurance and that it is hard to get them to open their doors for free. We were eating in Orbit Cafe the other day and I looked around and realized it would work perfectly. I found out the owner was on vacation and would be back in a few days, and so I left my number. A week went by and I had not heard anything so I drove by the cafe. I asked if the owner was there, and he was. The owner agreed to meet with me and, after hearing what we needed, okayed the project for free. He is a great guy! Now we have almost all the locations locked. We just need two more..... Just thought I would give you an update. I hope all your projects are coming together. -Matt

My Casting is next Saturday at 3:00pm YAY! I sifted through a lot of headshots, and I think I have a good group of actors coming. I am planning to have them performa 1 min or under monologue, some improv, and some reading from the script. Any suggestions for the casting process?

Hey Matt, you need crew? I'd be happy to help out if I have the time. Fresno filmmakers gotta stick together, right?

So how've you been searching for actors in Fresno? I'm trying to cast a project myself right now (not for HorrorFest).

Hey Bryan! I know Carollyn Devore who is casting agent around this area, and has a lot of talent at here fingertips. She has cast for free for us and is even allowing me to use her studio by the airport. So far so good. Check her out at www.devoretalent.com

Other than that, my wife is the lead in Ohklahoma at Centerstage, so I am meeting a ton of great actors who will work for screen credit.

I think it would be awesome to help each other out. I'll send you a PM. By the way...Moses rocked!

Does anyone have any tips on casting procedures? Do you have the actors read monologues? do you have them improv, read lines, etc?

Shooting schedule and Rehearsal Schedule locked into place. Auditioning for Lead today, all others are auditioning this Saturday. Have a friend who has a DVX100b and is going to be second camera operator! :)

Very cool, thanks for the constant updates too! A production diary is always an interesting read... (for me anyway)
