Matt Sconce- Stricken

While that old knife looks cool, I think that since this is happening in the home, it might be more likely that he'd be using the chef's knife. And there's A LOT to be said for the great reflections.

use both?
One in each hand, or both tucked in the belt?
Or the weird one is his steady until he looses it and has to improvise with the found Chef's kife?

The glint reads real nice on camera ... but the grunge is s good aesthetic ... I see your dilimma ... juts pick the one that servers the moment best

See, that is why I love you guys! I NEVER thought of either of those points or ideas. Cool...good food for thought.

Lol! We have our dress rehearsal for the restaurant scene on the 16th...Soon Soon Soon! More lighting test on location tomorrow.

We start shooting Friday. I walked through the restaurant today to make sure my storyboards worked. it is looking good. We just got the name tags back from Ace Trophy for the waitresses. I checked on when the lights in the parking lot by the restaurant came on so I could take that into consideration. Final lighting tests of two KEY areas tonight.

Great shot! I would say that shot 1 would look good if it was a vampire film like night watch (oh what a great movie). Shot 2 is more like 24, action....Shot5 is pretty sick! I like this one!

I like shots 3 & 4 the best. 3 out weighing 4 but both look really good. Use both knives if you can. If not, go with which ever one you think fits best. If the guy is a little crazy than go w/ the unordinary knife. If it's something grabbed quickly or whatever, than go w/ the normal kitchen knife. Whatever one fits the actors personality better.

Here is a test lighting shot of the hallway. The little girl (who is not the girl in the test) is walking toward the bathroom where a killer waits.

Any suggestions from those of you who have had to light something like this? I am trying to make it seem dark, but still have enough info reach the sensors to prevent noise. Oh, the vignetting you see on the left was because I forgot to take a spacer off. *Sigh*

more light, more light... you can always darken more in post...

How would you put more light into the hallway and still get the light coming from under the door look? Thanks!

hit a light at the left side of the wall.... and maybe, use a light with a filter on it, or one that's a different color temperature, so the light under the door still stands out.

Please don't consider this being petty, but I see you have set up an external web site for your film and I think that violates the rules:

Film's can only be promoted here at dvxuser inside your own unique threads. No external site(s) or link's are permitted (Unless a video or image host) Like the indiviual film discussion's, we will have the same for the Horrorfest films.

I only mention this because I recall at least one filmmaker who had a really cool site had to pull it down for this reason. Anyway, if the rules have changed please overlook my comment.

Otherwise, I like your grab a lot but I agree with Brandon that you will have more to work with if you add more light, which will allow you to go for more of a contrasty look in post that often works nicely in the horror genre.

AND I totally agree that watching SHED should be required viewing. Damn, I watch that thing almost every day and still can't believe Jack lit it with such a simple kit.

Haha I'll respond for Matt since this is probably driving him nuts ...
He's only entering for exhibition ... not to compete.

Hey Matt maybe put that under your banner and in the first post "exhibition premiere Horrorfest 06" or something, cuz almost nobody will read all 14+ pages and I'm sure you'll keep hearing it.

Mark your not being petty at all. Rules are rules and one of the biggest favors you can do someone is let them know about something that could DQ them before its too late. And believe me if a film does well, any skeletons in its closet will get PMed to Jarred about 50 times a day during the festival. Posts like yours help the competing filmmakers keep their closet skeleton free

Haha thanks ... but I don't think you've seen the BTS ... I gotta get that online since the DVD is no longer in release ... but you can see the room is lit as bright as a country day ...

HA HA HA! Thanks Jack! Jeez, maybe I should read these threads from the top!!! Sorry Matt! I'm delighted you are exhibiting this little gem here and even more delighted you aren't going to be walking away with the HVX!

And Jack, I didn't see where I could order the DVD on your site. Is it possible?
