Marshall V-LCD50-HDMI on the T2i (the new 5" one)

Well, sold my DVX and grabbed the Marshall, mainly to have the peaking filter. $516 at B&H.

It's a decent monitor, but I've found the peaking to be useless; I assume it's the Canon aliasing, but almost everything's displayed as "in focus" when using peaking. Even stuff that is way, way off.

Anyone having the same results? I may return it and get a Lilliput - if aliasing is the case, the SmallHD isn't going to be any better I'd guess.

I have to say, the for $25 it's got a great hood though.

Yep, read everything I could on Lilliput, Small & Marshall - though there's nothing in the linked article regarding how much stuff is show in focus, just this:

The Marshall has peaking for focus assist. It seems better than my 6.5″ for some reason at this, not sure why. It also has false colour to help with exposure.

I've played with it some more; for some shots, you can watch the peaking sort of "bloom" as you rack and get a good idea of focus. It's just not as clear cut as peaking on a camcorder usually is, more of a mess.

It's a beautiful screen though, great viewing angle and the color & exposure looks spot-on. Supposedly you can tune the exposure if you can get color bars on the thing; should be able to change the creator code on a JPEG and get it in the camera to play with.

Yes, Yes, Yes. I tried the Marshall at BH and also found the peaking useless (as did the salesman). Plus, my 60D only fills part of the screen so it's hardly bigger than the 60D's LCD screen.

I have just received the 8" Lilliput. I got it with the battery with the hope that it will mount on back. There are no instructions for mounting it this way and the ebay seller, based in Los Angeles, can a) barely communicate in English and, b) generally replies in the shortest way possible using no capital letters or punctuation. The one long answer I got from him was all in caps.

However, even if I can mount it on back it will be too heavy! I would like to find a way to mount Canon batteries.

A.

The thing I do love about the marshall is the image is just stellar. Conflicted on keeping it or going Lilliput.

Look at Lilliput's site or their reseller (coollcd.com) - cool lcd had some info on battery brackets, etc. My current monitor has a big "battery in a sack" that I would strap to the center plate of the crane or even hang around my neck for rig shots (it's like a little purse).

I placed an order for the Marshall + hood the other day, and I think it's supposed to arrive on Friday.

The one and only reason that I bought it was for the False Color exposure tool. If it also helps to frame / focus my T2i, then those will be excellent pluses.

I look forward to testing it this weekend.
